Dieter Otto Karl Heidtmann (born January 10, 1963 in Düsseldorf ) is a German Protestant theologian , pastor and political scientist .

Life

School education and study

Dieter Heidtmann passed the Abitur at the Philipp Matthäus Hahn -Gymnasium in Leinfelden-Echterdingen and studied Protestant theology, political science and history in Tübingen , Bonn and Oxford ( United Kingdom ). Since March 24, 1993 he has a Masters degree in Political Science. In 1997 he received his doctorate in systematic theology under Jürgen Moltmann as a doctor of theology.

activity

From 1992 to 1993 Heidtmann worked in the recruitment of specialists for the Church Development Service at services overseas . In the 1994 summer semester he was a lecturer for systematic theology and development policy at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Reutlingen . From 1995 to 1997 Heidtmann was vicar in the Protestant parish Waldenbuch . He then worked as a consultant for advocacy in the Evangelical Mission in Southwest Germany and was one of the regional coordinators of the Year 2000 campaign for debt relief in developing countries.

From 2000 to 2004 Dieter Heidtmann was a parish priest in the Protestant Johanneskirche in Crailsheim . From 2004 to 2010 he worked as a representative of the Community of Evangelical Churches in Europe (CPCE) in Brussels with the organizations of the European Union . From 2010 to 2015 Dieter Heidtmann was Head of Studies in the Department of Economic Policy and Business Ethics with a focus on Europe at the Evangelical Academy Bad Boll . Since June 1, 2015 he has been the head of the Church Service in the Working World (KDA) Baden in the Evangelical High Church Council in Karlsruhe . From 2012 to 2016 he also lectured on business ethics at the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Economics and Environment .

The focus of his work to this day has been on ethical and social issues in the dialogue between the Church and the economy and society of Europe. He was also in charge of EU projects for the Protestant churches in Europe, such as the service directive or strategies to combat poverty .

Since April 2020 he has been Secretary General of the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity based in Stuttgart.

Political activity

Dieter Heidtmann was city councilor in the large district town of Leinfelden-Echterdingen from 1989 to 1992 .

In the 2019 European elections , Dieter Heidtmann ran for the SPD in southern Württemberg . His special concern is the creation of a social Europe, the further development of the European Union into a European republic and the strengthening of the EU as a community of values.

Private

Dieter Heidtmann has been married since 1994 and has two grown daughters. He describes himself as a passionate hobby footballer, passionate European and convinced train driver .

Memberships

From 2000 to 2004 and from 2011 to 2017 he headed the Baden-Württemberg support group of the ecumenical development cooperative Oikocredit . Heidtmann founded the European CALL network (Church Action on Labor and Life) in 2010 and was one of the two coordinators of the network until 2012.

From 2008 to 2010 he was a member of the European Commission's Stakeholder's Expert Group for the European Year of Poverty Reduction.

Since 2015 he has been a board member of the Association for Social Ethics in Central Europe (Vienna). He is a member of the Societas Ethica, the Society for Evangelical Theology and the Evangelical Covenant .

He is a member of the state board of the Europa-Union Baden-Württemberg .
