Dietmar Kraus

Dietmar Kraus (born July 26, 1970 in Freilassing ) is a German film editor , curator and lecturer .

Life

Born in Bavaria, Dietmar Kraus grew up in South Africa and graduated from the German School in Cape Town in 1989 . In 1990 he returned to Germany. From 1995 to 2003 studied at the Film School Babelsberg in the degree program installation , which he graduated with diploma. From 2007 to 2009 he was a representative of the professorship for artistic assembly / digital assembly practice at his former study site in Potsdam .

As editor, Kraus has edited more than a dozen feature and documentary films, including two films each by the directors Maria Speth and Sylke Enders , as well as the director Jonas Rothlaender . The montage of Rothlaender's documentary Familie haben brought Kraus a nomination for the editing prize at the Festival Filmplus in 2016 . Films edited by him also won several other prizes: B. received the docu-drama Life Goes on (director: Mark Cairns) in 2003 an International Emmy for best documentary; the feature film Madonnen (director: Maria Speth) was awarded the Hessian Film Prize in 2007 ; and Fado (director: Jonas Rothlaender) won the German Film Critics' Prize in 2016 for best debut feature film.

Dietmar Kraus has been a member of the board of the Bundesverband Filmschnitt Editor eV (BFS) since 2016 and is a member of the German Film Academy . Since 2017 he has also been a curator and partner at the Filmplus Festival in Cologne, which is dedicated to both the artistic and professional aspects of film editing.
