description

Vegetative characteristics

Diplorhynchus condylocarpon grows as a deciduous shrub or small tree and forms a white or yellow milky sap . The hanging branches are usually covered with paler lenticels , the rough bark is streaked with deep cracks. The wood is whitish yellow to pale orange. The elliptical, pointed leaves are glossy yellow-green and often long-stalked . Mostly they are arranged opposite one another. Their pale yellow central and side ribs are clearly visible.

Inflorescence, flower, fruit and seeds

The flowering period lasts from September to December. At the branch ends, Diplorhynchus condylocarpon forms a thyrsus with terminal flowers in loose racemose inflorescences .

Apart from the partly slightly irregular egg-shaped, pointed, overgrown sepals , the white to cream-colored, sweet-scented flowers are radial symmetry . Usually the corolla tube , near the center of which the stamens are located, is much longer than the calyx, almost cylindrical and thickened in the upper half. The anthers are triangular, tapering to a point and arrow-shaped at the base. The ovary consists of two at the base coalesced carpels . In each carpel there are four ovules on an adaxial placenta .

The fruit is composed of two elongated follicles that are dark brown on the outside and speckled with many paler lenticels and open on the adaxial side. The seeds are compressed laterally, elongated and provided with long wings at the tip. The wings of the two outer seeds are directed towards the base, those of the two central seeds towards the tip of the fruit.
