The district of La Encañada is located in the province of Cajamarca in the Cajamarca region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 635.06 km². The 2017 census counted 19,175 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 22,117, in 2007 23,076. Seat of the district administration is at an altitude of 3098 m preferred Town Encañada 1390 inhabitants (2017). Encañada is located in the southeast of the district, 20 km east-northeast of the provincial and regional capital Cajamarca . In the northwest of the district on the border with the neighboring districts of Cajamarca and Los Baños del Inca is the Yanacocha mine , where gold is mined.
Geographical location
The district of La Encañada is located in the Andean highlands east of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northeast of the province of Cajamarca. The area is drained to the south via the Río Cajamarca .
The La Encañada district borders in the northwest with the districts of Tumbaden ( San Pablo Province ), Hualgayoc and Bambamarca (both in the Hualgayoc province ), in the northeast with the districts Huasmín , Sorochuco and Sucre (all in the province Celendín ), in the extreme southeast the districts of Oxamarca (also in the province of Celendín) and Gregorio Pita ( province of San Marcos ), in the south to the district of Namora and in the southwest to the districts of Los Baños del Inca and Cajamarca .
