The Longuita district is located in the Luya province of the Amazon region in northern Peru . The district has an area of 57.9 km². At the 2017 census, the district had 2,228 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 720, in 2007 946. The district administration is located in Longuita.
Geographical location
Longuita is located in the high mountains. In the north, the Longuita district borders on the Colcamar district , in the east on the Tingo district , in the southeast on the María district , in the west on the Pisuquía district and in the northwest on the Ocumal district .
Around Longuita there are many ruins of the Chachapoya culture that have not yet been explored . The central festival in Longuita is celebrated from October 4th to 10th in honor of San Miguel (St. Michael) and San Francisco (St. Francis). Lake Cucha-Cuella is also located in the Longuita district .
