The district of Santo Tomás is one of the 23 Peruvian districts that make up the province of Luya in the Amazon region. The district has an area of 84.93 km². The population was 3,012 at the 2017 census.
geography
Santo Tomás is located in the high mountains and at night it often gets bitterly cold. To the east, the Santo Tomás district is bounded by the Utcubamba River . In the Santo Tomás district there are many ruins of the Chachapoya culture .
In the north, the Santo Tomás district borders on the San Juan de Lopecancha district , in the east on the La Jalca and Leimebamba districts , in the south on the San Francisco del Yeso district , in the south on the Cocabamba district and in the west on the María district .
The village festival in Santo Tomás takes place on December 21st, the feast of St. Thomas.
