The Conila District is located in the Luya Province in the Amazonas region in northern Peru . The district has an area of ​​256.2 km². At the 2017 census, the district had 1,840 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2108, in 2007 2033. The district administration is located in Cohechan .

Conila is the last remaining place where all ages spoke the traditional Chachapoyas Quechua in 2003 , but there were no more than 300 monolinguals.

The village festival in the district capital Cohechan is celebrated on June 24th and in the village of Conila on June 16th.

Geographical location

In the north, the district of Conila is bordered by the district of Jamalca , in the east by the districts of Santa Catalina and the districts of Luya Viejo, and in the south by the districts of Lonya Chico and the district of Ocallí and in the west by the district of Camporredondo .
