The district of San Miguel de El Faique is located in the Huancabamba province of the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on January 29, 1965. It has an area of 208 km². At the 2017 census, there were 9,184 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 9044, in 2007 9096. The administrative center is the 1050 m high village of San Miguel de El Faique with 1143 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Miguel de El Faique is located 25 km southwest of the provincial capital Huancabamba .
Geographical location
The district of San Miguel de El Faique is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the south-west of the Huancabamba province. The longitudinal extension in east-west direction is almost 33 km. The river Río Pusmalca, a right tributary of the Río Piura , flows along the northwestern district boundary to the west and drains the area. The continental watershed runs along the eastern district boundary .
San Miguel de El Faique district is bordered to the north by the district Canchaque , on the east by the district Sondorillo , and on the south by the district Huarmaca and on the southwest by the district Salitral ( Morropón Province ).
