The Lalaquiz district is located in the Huancabamba province of the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on December 30, 1983. It has an area of 146 km². At the 2017 census there were 4,288 inhabitants in the district. In 1993 the population was 5,999, in 2007 5115. The administrative seat is the village of Tunal , which is about 960 m high and has 575 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tunal is 25 km west of the provincial capital Huancabamba .
Geographical location
The Lalaquiz District is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the north-west of the Huancabamba Province. The Río Bigote , a right tributary of the Río Piura , drains the area to the south.
The Lalaquiz district is bordered on the southwest by the district of San Juan de Bigote , in the northwest on the district Yamango (both in the Morropón Province ), in the northeast on the district Pacaipampa ( ayabaca province ), on the east by the district Huancabamba and to the southeast by the Canchaque District .
