The Pacaipampa district is located in the Ayabaca province in the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​981.5 km². At the 2017 census , there were 21,257 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 23,995, in 2007 24,760. The administrative center is the small town of Pacaipampa at an altitude of 1967  m with 1389 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pacaipampa is 40 km south of the provincial capital Ayabaca .

Geographical location

The Pacaipampa district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southeast of the Ayabaca province. It has a longitudinal extent in NW-SE direction of about 50 km and a maximum width of about 25 km. The eastern district boundary runs along the continental divide . The area is drained to the northwest over the Río Quiroz to the Río Chira .

The Pacaipampa district is bordered by the Frías and Lagunas districts to the west, the Ayabaca district to the north, the El Carmen de la Frontera district to the east, the Huancabamba district to the southeast and the Lalaquiz , Yamango and Chalaco districts to the southwest .
