The district of Sapillica is located in the province of Ayabaca in the region of Piura in northwestern Peru . The district was established on February 23, 1946. It has an area of ​​275 km². At the 2017 census , 10,901 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 9114, in 2007 11,127. Administration is located in the 1466  m locality highly preferred Sapillica with 1,065 inhabitants (2017). Sapillica is located 33 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Ayabaca .

Geographical location

The Sapillica district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the south-west of the Ayabaca province. It has a longitudinal extension in north-south direction of 21 km and a maximum width of 16 km. The Río Chipillico , left tributary of the Río Chira , drains the area in a westerly direction.

The Sapillica district borders on the Tambogrande district in the west, the Las Lomas district (both in the Piura province ) in the northwest , the Paimas district in the north, the Lagunas district in the east and the Frías district in the south .
