The Tarucachi district is located in the Tarata Province in the Tacna region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on November 12, 1874. It has an area of ​​107 km². The 2017 census counted 334 residents. In 1993 the population was 455, in 2007 it was 434. The district administration is located in the 3050  m high town of Tarucachi with 314 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tarucachi is located 5.5 km south of the provincial capital Tarata .

Geographical location

The Tarucachi district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the central southeast of the Tarata Province. The Río Sayllana, left tributary of the Río Sama , flows along the southern district boundary to the west. In the far east rises the 5453  m high Nevado Coruña .

The Tarucachi district borders in the far west on the Héroes Albarracín district , in the north on the Tarata district , in the far east on the Palca district ( Tacna province ), in the south on the Estique district and in the south-west on the Estique Pampa district .
