The Estique district is located in the Tarata Province in the Tacna region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 295 km². The 2017 census counted 261 residents. In 1993 the population was 319, in 2007 it was 551. The district administration is located in the 3148 m high village of Estique (also Estique Pueblo) with 101 inhabitants (as of 2017). Estique is located 7.5 km south of the provincial capital Tarata .
Geographical location
The Estique district is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcánica in the southeast of the Tarata province. The Río Sayllana, left tributary of the Río Sama , runs along the northern district boundary to the west.
The district Estique is bordered to the west by the district Estique Pampa , on the north by the district Tarucachi , on the east by the district of Palca , in the southeast on the districts Pachía and Ciudad Nueva and in the extreme southwest of the district Alto de la Alianza (the last four mentioned districts belong to the province of Tacna ).
