Dmitri Grigoryevich Chwostow ( Russian Дмитрий Григорьевич Хвостов ; born August 21, 1989 in Ivanovo , RSFSR ) is a Russian basketball player . Chwostow moved to the youth teams of MBK Dynamo from Moscow in 2005 and was subsequently also used in the club's men's team, so that he made his debut in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague as a 17-year-old . After the club was relegated from the top Russian league in 2011, he moved to Russian runner-up BK Chimki. With the Russian national team he took part in the 2010 basketball world championship and the 2011 European basketball championship , which won a bronze medal. He was able to win the same type of medal at the 2012 Olympic Games with the Russian national team.

Career

After the U16 European Championship in 2005 Chwostow moved from his hometown to Dynamo Moscow. After winning the Russian Junior League in 2006, he was used in almost all league games of the men's team in the Superleague Russia in the following season 2006/07 and as a 17-year-old also got playing time in the ULEB Euroleague 2006/07 , in the quarter-finals - Play-offs against eventual title winners Panathinaikos Athens were eliminated. In the summer of 2007 he was about to be nominated for the men's final squad for the 2007 European Championship , but was one of the last players to be removed by national coach David Blatt . So he missed the surprising title win of the Russian national team after a final victory over hosts Spain . After finishing fourth in the Russian championship in 2007, they won the play-off series for third place in 2008 and thus a bronze medal in the Russian championship. Under coach Svetislav Pešić they reached the semi-finals in the ULEB Cup 2007/08 , but lost there against Pešić 'former club Akasvasyu Girona and took third place after a victory in the small final against Galatasaray Café Crown . With a new coach they reached the Elite Eight tournament in the Eurocup 2008/09 , the new name of the ULEB Cup , but this time they were eliminated in the quarterfinals. In the Russian championship they were eliminated as third placed in the main round this time in the quarter-final play-offs. Chwostov's play stagnated during this time at Dynamo and he was still used in the reserve team in the meantime. At the U20 European Championships in 2009, the Russian junior selection reached only ninth place, but Chwostow was clearly the best assists of the entire tournament with 6.1  assists per game. In the Eurocup 2009/10 they were eliminated after six defeats in six games in the preliminary round, while in the Russian championship they failed again as in 2007 and 2008 at the dominating series champion and local rival PBK CSKA Moscow and ultimately took fourth place. In the summer of 2010, national coach Blatt Chwostow finally nominated for a final squad. At the 2010 World Cup , he was used in all games and remained victorious with his teammates in the preliminary round except for one defeat against hosts Turkey . In the quarter-finals, however, they lost to Serbia and ended up in seventh place.

In the newly founded PBL as the highest Russian league, Dynamo occupied the penultimate place in the table at the end of the 2010/11 season and then got the license withdrawn, so that Chwostow moved to runner-up in the Moscow suburb of Chimki . At the EM 2011 they won all preliminary and intermediate round matches and this time they were able to defeat Serbia in the quarter-finals. Then they lost the semi-finals against France , but were able to secure the bronze medal by winning the small final over the surprise team of the Macedonia tournament . With BK Chimki he twice won the runner-up in the PBL behind CSKA Moscow in 2012 & 2013 and the Eurocup 2011/12 , but in the ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 they narrowly failed to reach the quarter-finals. As a supplementary player to the Russian national team, he took part in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where the Russian team was able to secure a bronze medal again when the American champions and bronze medalists from Beijing 2008 Argentina were defeated in the game for third place. However, Chwostow was only used in four games at this tournament. For the 2013/14 season he moved from the financially troubled Russian runner-up to the club from Nizhny Novgorod .
