The Dnipro Arena ( Ukrainian Дніпро-Арена ) is the club's own football stadium of the Ukrainian football club FK Dnipro in the city of Dnipro . Before that, they played in the old Meteor Stadium from 1966.
history
The stadium with 31,003 covered seats, designed by the J. Serjogin architectural office and built by the German construction company Hochtief , was opened on September 14, 2008 in the presence of the then President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko . Construction began on April 1, 2005 and the cost of the new building was € 40 million . The first game in the stadium was made by two traditional teams from Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Spartak Moscow . In the first official game on September 29, 2008 Dnipro received the team of Metalurh Zaporizhia in front of 27,000 spectators . Dnipropetrovsk lost the league game 1: 2.
In addition to the VIP boxes with 293 seats, 550 business seats have also been set up in the stadium. The five-story main building contains a large restaurant with around 600 seats; there are also two banquet rooms with kitchen facilities. There are 219 jobs for journalists. The playing field has underfloor heating and an irrigation system . The new stadium was intended as one of the venues for the 2012 European Football Championship . Three preliminary round matches were to be played in the stadium, but due to the insufficient capacity it was exchanged for the Metalist stadium in Kharkiv with around 41,000 seats.
The Hochtief company complained in the summer of 2013 that eleven million euros of the construction costs of the stadium had not yet been paid. The financial claims against the club are now wanted to enforce with legal means. During a training camp in Bad Erlach in Lower Austria in July 2013 , Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk was therefore visited by a bailiff with an execution order .
Events
So far, the Ukrainian national football team has played twice in the new Dnipro stadium. It was the first victory of the Ukrainians over the English national team.
On May 31, 2009, the venue hosted the Ukrainian Cup final between Vorskla Poltava and Shakhtar Donetsk (1-0).
