The Volodymyr Boyko Stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Ukrainian city ​​of Mariupol . It has space for 12,680 spectators and is used, among other things, as a home for the football club FK Mariupol . It was called Illichivets Stadium until February 2018, when it was named after the hero of Ukraine Volodymyr Boyko .

Today's Volodymyr Boyko Stadium in Mariupol , a city with almost half a million inhabitants in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine on the shores of the Sea of Azov , was built in 1956 and opened that same year. Four years later, the Illichivets Mariupol Association was founded in Mariupol . This, consisting of various sports departments, used the stadium as a venue for competitions in athletics and other sports. When the club's football department was launched in 1996, it also used the Illitschivets stadium, which at that time was still known as the Novator stadium , as its home stadium. The football department of Illichivets Mariupol was able to record the greatest success so far by winning the Perscha Liha , the second highest Ukrainian football league, in the 2007/08 season. Currently they play in the first division of Ukrainian football, the Premjer-Liha , where placements in the middle of the table have been achieved on a regular basis.

In the first division 2003/04 season Illitschivets Mariupol was the fairest team in the league and qualified for the 2004/05 UEFA Cup through the fair play rating . The Illichivets Stadium was home to the first round match against FC Banants Yerevan from Armenia , which Mariupol won 2-0, as well as the second round match against FK Austria Wien , which ended with a goalless draw. Since Illitschiwez Mariupol lost the second leg in Austria's capital 3-0, the club was eliminated from the competition and the game against Austria Wien was the last European cup match in the stadium to this day.

Nowadays the Volodymyr Boyko Stadium can accommodate 12,680 spectators. It is often used by the Ukrainian women's national soccer team for international matches. The Illichivets Stadium was one of the selected venues for the U-19 European Football Championship 2009 , which Ukraine was able to secure. As the second largest tournament stadium , the games took place exclusively in Donetsk and Mariupol, the Illichivets stadium was home to three preliminary round matches and a semi-final. The final, in which Ukraine won the European title with a 2-0 win over England , rose in the RSK Olimpijskyj , the former home of Shakhtar Donetsk, with a capacity of around 25,000 . In addition to football, athletics competitions take place here, and the lawn is surrounded by a tartan track .
