The International Dollard Route is a 300-kilometer circuit for cyclists. The route leads through the German districts of Leer and Emsland and the Dutch province of Groningen . It has existed since 1996. An association "International Dollard Route eV" was founded on May 2nd, 1996.

Signage, alternative routes and nature of the path

The International Dollard Route is signposted in both directions. In addition to the main route, there are also two alternative routes, these are marked with an "A". The first alternative offers the cyclist the opportunity to drive between Ditzum and Delfzijl directly along the Dollart . With the second alternative, you first cross the Ems in Ditzum with the district ferry from the district of Leer, which commutes to Petkum every half hour . From there the route leads through Emden to the Emden- Knock external pier , from where you can cross the Dollart on certain days and cross to Delfzijl .

The route leads over flat, level land and, with a few exceptions, on paved roads. There are no inclines to speak of, apart from the dikes . Some areas of land that are passed through are even below sea level.
