Doris Borkmann

Doris Borkmann (born March 13, 1935 in Berlin ; † May 12, 2017 in Potsdam ) was a German assistant director , caster and assistant editor.

life and work

Doris Borkmann was born in 1935 as the daughter of the painter and graphic artist Paul Nowiki and a chief secretary. Borkmann took an early interest in the theater and work away from the stage. After completing school, she received an apprenticeship at DEFA . She gained extensive knowledge in the field of film production, especially from a technical perspective. Her aspired goal was the job of assistant director. Borkmann completed his training with an award.

Borkmann's first film project was The Judge of Zalamea in 1956 , on which she helped with the editing . Subsequently, Borkmann became the second assistant director for the feature film Das Traumschiff by Herbert Ballmann . In her professional career there have been intensive, long-term working relationships between Borkmann and many DEFA directors such as Kurt Maetzig (including Der schweigende Stern , Das Lied der Sailors ), Frank Beyer (including Der Bruch , the end of innocence ) or Konrad Wolf (including I. was nineteen , Solo Sunny , The Naked Man on the Sports Field ).

Borkmann worked at DEFA until liquidation in 1991. In 1996 she stopped working as an assistant director. From now on, Borkmann worked increasingly in the casting area. To do this, she sifted through talents for directors such as Andreas Dresen , Bernd Böhlich and Doris Dörrie at many drama schools. In addition, Borkmann gave seminars at the state drama schools in Rostock and Leipzig and at the Babelsberg Film University .

In November 2014, Borkmann was honored for her artistic life's work at the 14th award ceremony of the DEFA Foundation . The laudation was given by Wolfgang Kohlhaase .
