Dschungelkind is a German feature film that was released on February 17, 2011. It is shown on television in a 30-minute longer version. The film is the screen adaptation of the autobiographical bestseller of the same name by Sabine Kuegler .
action
Klaus Kuegler is a linguist and moves with his wife Doris and their three children to the tropical rainforest of western New Guinea to research the language of a newly discovered indigenous tribe, the Fayu . The eight-year-old daughter Sabine settles in quickly. What the family does not know: They have found themselves in the middle of a tribal war, the struggles of which do not affect them directly, but which they are drawn into more and more often. In the beginning it is not easy for the family to understand the reason for the hostility and they have to recognize that love, hate, life and death in the foreign culture have different values than in their own. This is how a process of rapprochement begins in which both sides have to learn from each other.
When Sabine and her brother find the badly injured Auri one day and the family takes care of him at home, they put everyone in danger, as this act can decide about war and peace between the two tribes. A special bond and deep friendship immediately developed between Sabine and Auri.
When the family travels to Germany after years for a vacation, the sixteen-year-old Sabine is confronted with a completely “strange” world that is no longer hers. Your search for belonging and security ultimately becomes a search for yourself . Only after returning to the jungle does she know where her true home is.
