DubVision is a Dutch DJ - duo consisting of brothers Stephan Patchy and Victor Patchy . They celebrated their first big success in 2012 with the song All By Myself . With their music they mainly represent the genre Progressive House , although some of their publications can also be classified in the field of Electro House .

history

Childhood & Musical Influence

Stephan and Victor both grew up in the Netherlands and were integrated into the field of music at an early age. The reason for this was that their parents forced them to play an instrument, which is why they both learned to play the piano for over seven years. They traveled to different countries early on in order to collect musical influences from different cultures on their own music. Victor then began to produce his own beats and the first experiments with electronic music and various computer programs followed. After Steve noticed the first results of his younger brother's productions, his interest in similar pursuits grew and they decided to continue as a duo.

They refer to progressive house legend Axwell and Alesso as musical role models . Both are said to have a strong influence on the duo with the music they produce. When producing their songs, they usually start with a simple melody that one of the two members plays on their keyboards. This is then supplemented with a second melody based on the same chords. The rest mostly results from the style of the song, as well as a multitude of differences that have to be compensated. While Victor has specialized more in the technical area of production, Stephan takes on a lot more part of the concept development.

2010–2012: First record contracts & style development

In 2010 the Dutch progressive trance label “The Sessions Recordings” became aware of the duo and began to cooperate with them. However, the style of the brothers there developed less in the direction on which it is based today, but much more in the realm of big beat or tech house . With the songs published there Milo Doesnt Care or Keep On Movin , they made their first name in the scene. With Live Life a first track was released in the summer of 2010 on the record label "Baroque Back Catalog", where their track is based on melodic parts for the first time. In the meantime, some songs have also appeared on the labels "Rococo Records" and " Armada Music ".

With the remix of Derek Howell's Stride , published in 2011, a first progressive house-inspired release appeared. Thereupon the track The Arena appeared on "Zouk Recordings" , with which the duo could be heard for the first time in several compilations and celebrated their first success. With a remix for The Real You by the Dutch DJ and producer Dark Matters together with Jess Morgan, they released a piece on “Armada Music” in early February 2012, the style of which was imprinted on the duo and had a strong influence on their later releases. In addition to the progressive house drop, a tech house part also played a role here, which covers their previous style. This release also made the successful Dutch label " Spinnin 'Records " aware and accepted the duo. The collaboration with "Spinnin 'Records" was quick and on February 27, 2012, less than a month after their The Real You remix, a revision of their song All By Myself . Behind it is a vocal progressive house track, the vocal track of which is based on the song In This World by US producer Moby in collaboration with singer Jennifer Price. All By Myself is described as their debut single on a selection of websites . The reason for this can be given that this track is the beginning of the use of their later distinctive style. For this purpose, remixes by the German DJs Tujamo and David Jones were contributed.

From spring 2012, in addition to some outstanding releases from earlier projects, a large number of remixes were released, including the song Disco Sun by feat. Pascal & Pearce as well as Juliet Harding, who was a great success especially on music platforms like SoundCloud or YouTube and drew great attention to them. Next, release the title was You & I to. This was created in collaboration with the Canadian DJ duo Project 46 and singer Donna Lewis. With their remix to Disco Sun they also received attention from the German record label " Kontor Records ", which participated in the release of this track. You & I was a great success and received almost exclusively positive feedback. The song received hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube and is only just short of a million plays on Spotify.

2013: First big successes & collaborations

In the same year they also made their debut on Axwell's record label "Axtone". There her remix of the single Falling (Committed to Sparkle Motion) by the Scottish EDM quartet Discopolis was released. In the fall of 2012, the single first appeared on Beatport only under the title Committed to Sparkle Motion . The full title followed in May 2013. Mix received a lot of attention from the very first release and brought the duo into the Beatport Top 100 for the first time. In the Progressive House category, they even made it into the top 10 and have over 1.5 million plays on Spotify.

On March 8, 2013 they released Redux again on "Spinnin 'Records". With Redux they reached the top 20 for the first time on Beatport. One month later the song Into the Light was released , a collaboration with the successful Dutch DJ Sander van Doorn and DJ duo Mako via his “Spinnin '” sub-label “Doorn Records”. Into the Light is considered to be one of their most successful releases and not only reached number three in the Beatport Top 100, but also number one in the progressive charts. The Australian singer-songwriter Marianna Bell provided the vocals. The official music video has now reached over a million views on YouTube. The song was also commercially successful, although it was not enough for a placement in the official Dutch charts, but for a position in the Tip charts.

With Triton , a collaboration with Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, the official anthem for the Dance Valley Festival 2013 followed. The release date was August 16, 2013. The single was no less successful in the Beatport charts. However, the track differs from its predecessors, because Triton is not their typical progressive hosue style, but a mixture of tech and electro house. The successor single Rifler was released on November 18, 2013 via "Doorn Records" and once again surpassed the success of some earlier releases. This track is also based on the electro-house genre. The reason for this was the growing popularity of the big room house at the time.

2014: Tomorrowland & Genre Variations

In autumn to winter 2013 they started studio work with the Dutch DJ duo Firebeatz . This resulted in the track Rockin ' in January 2014 , with which they took another step towards the big room. The whole thing was released on behalf of "Spinnin 'Records". The two duos advanced to the top 5 of the Beatport charts. However, DubVision came under strong criticism due to the change in genre and the strong degradation in quality in the eyes of the fans. On May 30, 2014, however, they followed up with the title Hollow . The track is again based on their typical progressive house style and especially the vocals, of an unnamed singer, were praised. The track became a huge success and was used in numerous podcast episodes by other musicians as well as high Beatport chart positions. The official music video has counted several million views to date.

In time for the Tomorrowland Festival 2014, they released a collaboration with the also Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix . The title was titled Backlash and appeared as a so-called "Martin Garrix Edit". Although the dominance of Martin Garrix should be shown, the song was produced in the typical DubVision style. After Into the Light they reached the Dutch Tip Charts for the first time with this single and moved up to number one in the Beatport Top 100 for the first time. This was followed by an appearance at Tomorrowland in Belgium, where they premiered their upcoming single Sun in Your Eyes together with Michael Brun and singer Tom Cane. However, the single did not appear on "Spinnin '" as is typical, but on Brun's own record label "Kid Coconut". Although the song could not follow the success of Hollow or Backlash , it still caught a lot of praise and enthusiasm from fans.

On September 8, 2014, the official remix ep of the song Gold Skies by Sander van Doorn was released together with Martin Garrix and the Canadian brothers duo Dvbbs . There was also a remix by DubVision on it. Although the original can be described as a progressive house track, DubVision provided the song with their own style and moved up to number 15 on the genre charts on Beatport. In addition, "Spinnin.TV" produced an official music video for their version which, in addition to some scenes from the original video, shows the duo at one of their performances. On October 6, 2014, they followed up with Destination . Behind the song is a collaboration with the Australian DJ duo Feenixpawl and a second time with the record label "Axtone". At the same time, DubVision worked on another solo single, entitled Turn Around , which was the last release of 2014. The vocals of Turn Around are not named, but the single became another commercial success and reached number 6 on the Beatport charts.

2015: Invincible & Heart

They started 2015 with the title Broken , which, in addition to its typical Progressive House style, also had characteristics of Electro House. The singer was not mentioned here either. This was followed by the collaboration with the Dutch singer Ruby Prophet, who is already known through collaborations with audiences and DBSTF , among others . This resulted in the first song Vertigo , which brought the duo an average success, but the second collaboration with Ruby, in which Firebeatz also played a second time, developed into a great success. The duo premiered the song with the title Invincible in an instrumental version on January 10, 2015 at a performance at Club Magic in Poland. The vocals weren't added until their studio sessions with Ruby. After strong support at the Ultra Music Festival 2015 in Miami, the electro house track advanced to number 8 on the Beatport charts and was praised not only by fans, but also by numerous great DJs.

On August 10, 2015, DubVision released the single Heart , which made it into the top 10 of the Beatport charts early on and whose official music video was viewed over half a million times in just three days. In addition to their progressive house style, they also used the vocal cuts popular at the time, whose origins lie with Martin Garrix and for whose use some other producers have already been criticized. At the same time, a vocal edit called I Found Your Heart was released by Emeni, who first made a name for herself as the singer of the song Runaway (U&I) by Galantis . The song received positive feedback almost without exception.
