history

Place-name sign

The place was first mentioned in 1228 as Dzelnitz . In 1830 the place had 299 inhabitants and in 1865 385 inhabitants.

In the referendum on March 20, 1921, 148 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 164 for Poland. Dzielnitz remained with the entire district of Cosel in the German Empire. In 1936 the place was renamed Füllstein . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Cosel .

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration, was renamed Dzielnica and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 Dzielnitz became part of the Opole Voivodeship and in 1999 the re-established Powiat Kędzierzyńsko-Kozielski . On October 11, 2007 the place was given the official German place name Dzielnitz , in September 2008 bilingual place name signs were put up.

The oldest defensive settlement in Poland was discovered in the immediate vicinity of this place in 2008, which is dated to 2286-2038 BC. German archaeologists had already dug in this area in the 20s and 30s of the previous century. However, these activities were interrupted by the events of the war. The work was only resumed in 2004 by employees of the Institute of Archeology at the University of Wrocław under the direction of Artur Rapiński and Mirosław Furmanek, and in 2008 this sensational discovery was made.
