Eßleben is a district of the market Werneck in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt .
geography
The place is five kilometers south of Werneck. The Brumbach , a tributary of the Wern , flows through it. In the east, the field name "zu Olzhausen" denotes the location of the submerged village of Adelshausen.
The appearance of the old town is determined by mostly horseshoe-shaped farmsteads that are arranged closely around the church. Outside there are settlements.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 772. In 1978 the previously independent municipality of Eßleben was incorporated into the municipality of Werneck as part of the municipal reform.
Buildings
The most important architectural monument is the Catholic parish church of St. George with its stone Mount of Olives group , which was built around 1500. There are also several listed wayside crosses , wayside shrines and processional altars in the village .

Due to the fertile loess loam soil , the place is characterized by agriculture. In the past, viticulture was practiced south of it . A large proportion of the population commutes to the Schweinfurt industry.
