The largest part of the foundation's assets consists of shares in Schöck AG , of which the foundation is the largest single shareholder. In recent years, the cooperation with German and European funding institutions has been expanded and co-financing has been raised for various projects. Almost 12 million euros have already been invested in completed or ongoing projects.

History of origin

The foundation was established in 1992 to promote the private-sector building trade in the transition states of Central and Eastern Europe under the motto "Change through training".

Purpose and goals

The private foundation under civil law pursues exclusively charitable purposes. The aim of the foundation is to promote education and training in the field of construction and engineering. In particular, the establishment of medium-sized structures in the transition countries is to be supported. The most important goal is to promote the building trade in Central and Eastern Europe and, through qualification programs and other measures, to encourage and enable young building tradespeople to establish an independent existence in their home country. In addition, vocational training for construction workers is being fundamentally modernized in individual model projects. The former socialist countries are dependent on well-trained specialists in the construction industry in order to meet the requirements for high-quality construction and expansion. Based on the conviction that medium-sized businesses are an essential factor for democracy and a market economy, the foundation’s measures are intended to contribute to the development of the private-sector building trade and thus to the development of medium-sized companies in Central and Eastern European countries. In Germany, too, the foundation promotes development and research in civil engineering through the Schöck Bau Innovation Prize and the German language through the German Language Culture Prize . The foundation also supports the German university building award and the DEUTSCHLAND scholarship. These programs and projects deal with and promote economic, social, structural and educational issues. On top of that, the projects also serve as a forum for international understanding.

Programs

One year after the foundation was established, preparations began for the first qualification program for construction workers . To date, more than 5400 craftsmen, vocational school teachers, vocational school students, entrepreneurs and managers from ten different Central and Eastern European countries have taken part in the programs since they began in 1994.

Since the end of the 1990s, the qualification programs for building tradespeople have mainly been carried out as part of town twinning . The concept, advice and most of the financing come from the Eberhard Schöck Foundation. Cities that have an active partnership with a city in the Russian Federation , the Ukraine or in other Eastern European countries are responsible for organizing on site and supporting the program participants. Since the town twinning program began in 1996, the German cities of Speyer , Pforzheim , Karlsruhe, Ettlingen, Freiburg and Rheine have participated in this exchange program several times.

In order to support young entrepreneurs in Central and Eastern Europe in setting up their own businesses, the foundation has made loans available to the best of them from the foundation's own micro-credit programs. These are used to finance the most necessary tools and equipment in your workshop.

In 2007, the pilot project “Vocational School Exchange” between Pforzheim and Irkutsk (Russia) was carried out as part of the town twinning program. After the vocational school students from the Alfons-Kern-School in the Siberian city, the return visit followed only a short time later. Another exchange program for vocational school students from Karlsruhe and Krasnodar (Russia) followed, Lahr and Yekaterinburg, Pforzheim and Yekaterinburg. Further projects are planned. These exchange programs are funded by the German-Russian Youth Exchange Foundation.

Projects

The largest single project of the foundation since 1998 was the German-Russian model project “Promotion of the craft through vocational training” in Yekaterinburg (Russia). Together with the Ministry of Education of the Sverdlovsk Region, the vocational training courses for painters / designers, tilers, mosaicists and carpenters were reformed and adapted to European standards, and additional training as a master / manager was introduced. In 2002, in Yekaterinburg, the first graduates of the reformed craft vocational training were adopted. In order to promote this successful development, an institute for the development of handicrafts was established in Yekaterinburg at the Vocational Pedagogical University. Two years later, this project was concluded with an international conference. In the period that followed, this newly designed vocational training was also introduced at many other vocational schools in Russia.

Together with the Hanns Seidel Foundation e. V. and the Sequa, Foundation for Economic Development and Professional Qualification, the master craftsman's examination in building trades was introduced in Pécs (Hungary) in 1999. The content, process and requirements are closely based on German standards. After the exam, the graduates are able to set up and run their own business.

Since 2003, the foundation has also been a member of the foundation working group for vocational training in Eastern Europe, which was initiated by the Robert Bosch Foundation . This foundation working group consists of ten members who are involved in the field of craft training in Eastern Europe. On behalf of the working group, the foundation organized the second "accompanying workshop for craft vocational training in Southeast and Eastern Europe" in June 2010 in Yekaterinburg with participants from six countries.

In the meantime, the foundation working group began in Yekaterinburg under the leadership of the Eberhard Schöck Foundation the project “Vocational training for skilled workers in small businesses” in cooperation with the local Ministry of Education. By 2011, the Urals College for Technology and Entrepreneurship in the professions “Plumbing and Heating System Specialist” and roofer will adapt and modernize vocational training. The aim is to provide small and medium-sized enterprises with better trained and qualified employees by adapting vocational training to Western standards. This enables companies to assert themselves better in the market and develop further. The Robert Bosch Foundation, the WP Schmitz Foundation and the Louis Leitz Foundation supported this project with financial means.

In 2002 the “German-Ukrainian Construction Center Kiev (BZK)” was opened in Kiev. The BZK was an officially registered project in both the German and Ukrainian economics ministries. The Eberhard Schöck Foundation was responsible for the sponsorship and project management. The start-up financing came largely from funds from the German government's transform program. The Ukrainian non-profit "Foundation for the Promotion of the Building Industry" was established as the supporting organization for the building center. This has taken over the tasks of the BZK since April 2011 and continues some of the projects and measures of the BZK. She also supports the implementation of the foundation's projects in Ukraine. The most important Ukrainian partner is the Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture .

Since 2009, with the support of the construction center and the SFB in Lviv in western Ukraine , the foundation has carried out another project to modernize vocational training. Initially, the training for painters / restorers at the Higher Vocational Art School in Lviv was adapted to German and Western European standards together with the local education department. It is planned to supplement this model project with further vocational training courses. In a second step, the training for carpenters / restorers is currently being modernized.

partner

The projects are implemented with the help of various partners: non-governmental organizations, training institutions, trade interest groups, cities, craft businesses or state institutions that support the development of medium-sized structures in Central and Eastern Europe.

For the implementation of the measures and projects, the foundation has experts from the building trade and construction industry.
