Natural allocation
The Ebschloh belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Dill-Lahn-Eder source area (333.0) to the natural area Ederkopf-Lahnkopf-Ridge (333.01). The landscape falls to the north into the natural area Erndtebrücker Leimstruth (333.12), which belongs to the subunit Wittgensteiner Kammer (333.1 ), and to the east into the subunit Südwittgensteiner Bergland (333.2).
Rhine-Weser watershed
The Rhine-Weser watershed runs over the Ebschloh : on its southern flank the small Oberndorfer Bach rises as a western tributary of the Rüppersbach , which passes the mountain as a northern Lahn tributary in the catchment area of the Rhine to the east. The small Rammelsbach rises on its northern flank as an eastern tributary of the Benfe , which touches the mountain to the west as a southern tributary of the Eder in the catchment area of the Weser ; the Eder flows north-west past the mountain in Erndtebrück.
Protected areas
The wooded Ebschloh lies on the border of the Bad Laasphe landscape protection area ( CDDA no. 319747; designated 1987; 123.11 km² in size) in the east and Rothaargebirge (SI) (CDDA no. 555550027; 299.42 km²) in the west. To the west of the mountain lie parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler (FFH no. 5015-301; 34.46 km²) and parts of the nature reserve Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler (CDDA no. 329599; 1930; 11.74 km²) ); to the south-east is the Sauerwiese and Oberndorfer Bruch NSG (CDDA No. 165331; 1987; 3 ha).
Radar station and shooting range
On the Ebschloh summit, in the restricted military area, there is an air force base of operational command area 2 for air surveillance. The radome , under which radar antennas are installed, is visible from afar ; it used to be two domes. Together with other radar stations distributed in Germany , the Erndtebrücker radar station forms a network that records and monitors civil and military objects in flight around the clock - seven days a week. The Ebschloh shooting range is located around 400 m northeast of the summit, part of the restricted area, at around 660 m above sea level .
Traffic and walking
The federal road 62 leads in Erndtebrück northwest past Ebschloh, from which the district road 33 (Dillstrasse) branches off to Rüppershausen in the southeast . There is a hiking car park in the forest at an altitude of 610.9 m , from which a road or forest paths lead to the hilltop. In addition, the Obere Lahntalbahn runs east between Erndtebrück and Feudingen past the mountain.
There are hiking trails and paths around the Ebschloh. The summit region with the radar station is inaccessible to the public because of the restricted military area; Filming and photography is prohibited there.
Opportunities for viewing
The view from Ebschloh includes large parts of the Rothaargebirge, the Hohen Westerwald , the Ederkopf and the Ebbegebirge as well as parts of the Hochsauerland . Most of the time, however, the view is obstructed by the forest.
