Eduard Caspar von Siebold
Eduard Caspar (Kaspar) Jakob von Siebold (born March 19, 1801 in Würzburg , † October 27, 1861 in Göttingen ) was a German professor of gynecology . He worked at the universities of Berlin , Marburg and Göttingen .
Life
Eduard Kaspar Jakob von Siebold, the son of the obstetrician Adam Elias von Siebold , studied medicine in Berlin and Göttingen. In Berlin he received his doctorate in 1826 with the thesis De scirrho et carcinomate uteri, adjectis tribus totius uteri exstirpationis observationibus and then worked at the university building run by his father in Berlin. In 1827 he completed his habilitation there for the subject obstetrics and in 1829 he was appointed professor for obstetrics in Marburg, in 1833 in Göttingen, where he was chief physician of the clinic for gynecology and obstetrics at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen until 1861 . In 1834 he was elected a full member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .
As successor to Caspar Julius Mende , he traveled to Vienna in 1847 to study Boer's teaching because of the conflict with the Vienna School . On this occasion he expressed to Ignaz Semmelweis that he disagreed with certain of his scientific views.
Open to James Young Simpson , he led the ether - anesthesia and first under this condition, the caesarean section by. As a result, the facility developed into a women's clinic . The obstetrician were to " gynecologists ".
His successor was Jakob Heinrich Hermann Schwartz , who was a student of Gustav Adolf Michaelis in Kiel and Carl Conrad Theodor Litzmann .
Siebold was a member of the (short-lived) Corps Lusatia Berlin (1820) and the Corps Lusatia Leipzig (1857).
family
Siebold married Wilhelmine Nöldechen (1800-1892) in Berlin in 1829 . The couple had two sons and two daughters, who died young:
- Josephine (1834–1907) ⚭ Charles Gabriel Wesley Dingle (1826–1893), parents of the painter and ornithologist Edward von Siebold-Dingle (1893–1975)
- Agathe (* July 5, 1835; † March 1, 1909), singer, friends with Johannes Brahms ⚭ Carl Schütte (1831–1887), Dr. med., Prussian Medical Council
