Eduard Klein
Eduard Klein (born July 25, 1923 in Vienna , † January 2, 1999 in Berlin ) was a German writer and translator .
Life
Eduard Klein came from a Jewish merchant family. He attended the commercial academy in Vienna and worked as a commercial clerk . After Austria's annexation to the German Reich , Eduard Klein fled with his father and older brother Walter Klein to Czechoslovakia in 1938 and then to Chile via Dakar at the end of 1939 . It was there that Klein began to write literary texts. In 1943 he joined the Communist Party of Chile .
In 1953 he returned to Europe and settled as a freelance writer in East Berlin . Eduard Klein was a member of the SED and, since 1956, of the GDR Writers' Association ; from 1991 he was a member of the Association of German Writers . From 1959 to 1961 he was a full-time secretary of the German Writers' Association. From 1967 to 1981 he was a member of the Berlin city council . From November 1967 he was employed as a lay judge at the Berlin City Court.
Eduard Klein wrote socially critical novels and stories that belong to the adventure genre and are set mainly in South America , but also some books on current problems in GDR society. In the 1950s he translated a number of novels from English . Some of his books appeared in the GDR series " Excitingly told ".
Klein was married to the puppeteer Inge Borde-Klein . He is buried with her at the Friedrichsfelde central cemetery in the row of artist graves.
