Edward "Ed" John Speleers (born April 7, 1988 in Chichester , West Sussex , England ) is a British film actor . He became known in 2006 for his portrayal of Eragon in the fantasy film Eragon - The Legacy of the Dragon Riders .

Life

Edward John Speleers (often called Ed) is the youngest child of John Speleers, who is a financial advisor. His mother Gill lives in Spain . Speelers has two older half-brothers. His parents divorced when he was 3 years old. Until 2006 he attended Eastbourne College .

As early as 2005, Speleers tried to become the leading actor in a fantasy film, but when auditioning for The Chronicles of Narnia: The King of Narnia, he was defeated by Jaxin Hall and William Moseley . A year later he was more successful and was selected from 180,000 candidates for the role of Eragon , the main and title hero of the fantasy film Eragon - The Legacy of the Dragon Riders . Speleers only had acting experience through school performances. For example, he was in the school theater plays A Midsummer Night's Dream , End Station Sehnsucht , Richard III. and Hamlet active.

An article in The Sun magazine on January 29, 2007 caused great horror, especially among British fans . In it, a photographer shot Ed Speleers on a construction site while the then 18-year-old was busy working a wall covered with snow and ice with a hammer and chisel. Although his management did not elaborate on it, there has been speculation that after his debut as Eragon , Ed received no further film offers and his career as an actor was over. He also took on the leading role in the short film Deathless , and in 2010 in the TV film Witches - The Last Battle of the Templars . In 2012 he played the lead role of Jamies in the comedy Love Bite - Nothing is safer than sex . The following year Speleers starred in the short film Turncoat with Stephen McCole . In 2014 he was engaged again by director Julian Gilbey for a role after A Lonely Place to Die - Death Trap Highlands : He played the leading role of Sam in Gilbey's action crime comedy Plastic . In 2015 he starred in the lead role as train attendant Joe in the direct-to-video horror film Howl .

Speleers played the surfer Jimmy Penwarden in the British television series Echo Beach . In the movie Little Birds , he played a gay youth. From 2012 to 2014 he played the lead role of Jimmy Kent in the Golden Globe , Emmy and BAFTA TV series Downton Abbey . In 2015 he played the supporting role of Edward Seymours in the television series Wolves developed by BBC Two . The adaptation of the book of the same name by the British writer Hilary Mantel deals with the story of Henry VIII. In 2016 the series was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Mini-Series and a year earlier it received 8 Emmy nominations, but without winning a single one. In the same year, he also played a supporting role in the British television series Partners in Crime , which is two crime novels by Agatha Christie . He was also part of the main cast of the British television series Beowulf in 2016 . In mid-October 2017, he confirmed that he would play the role of pirate Stephen Bonnet in the fourth season of Outlander , which is based on the novel The Call of the Drum by Diana Gabaldon .

Ed Speleers is married and had a son in early February 2015.
