Location of Eichenberg in Bavaria

Eichenberg is a district of Haundorf in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .

Geographical location

The mountain village is located in the Franconian Lake District between Haundorf and Graefensteinberg , on the western slope of the almost 500 meter high Oak Mountain. To the west is the Haundorfer Weiher , to the south the Eichenberger Weiher , among others . The city of Gunzenhausen is about 6 km away. The Altort is a street village laid out in a south-west-north-east direction , with a settlement area in the south-east .

history

Eichenberg was first mentioned in a document in 914. At that time, an ethic and his son Helmbert transferred their property to Bishop Tuto of Regensburg to "Echineberg" or "Aychenberg". In 1612 there were 16 farms in the village. During the Thirty Years' War , in the middle of summer 1634, Eichenburg was sacked by a troop of Swedish cavalry. In 1732 there were 20 houses, in 1846 198 inhabitants in 39 families. The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1899 and a fire station was built in 1996.

From 1837 Eichenberg was an independent municipality, in 1972 it was incorporated into Haundorf as part of the municipal reform in Bavaria . In the same year the place was connected to the central water supply of the Reckenberg group .

In the past, the village lived exclusively from agriculture , in 2014 there was only one full-time farmer. Due to the proximity to the newly created lakes Altmühlsee and Brombachsee , there was a turn to tourism from the 1980s.

Municipal roads lead to the WUG 1 district road near Geislohe , the WUG 22 district road 500 m to the west to Seitersdorf or Haundorf and to the federal highway 466, which runs approximately 1.5 kilometers to the east .
