A Beetle Goes Full Throttle is a German-Swiss film from 1972. It is the second of five films in the Dudu film series about a miracle beetle of the same name .

action

Jimmy Bondi and his wonder beetle Dudu are on their way to Portugal by sea . In the Algarve they witness an argument in which ex-prisoner Plato and the attractive Tamara have to deal with Marchese de la Sotta and his henchmen. Plato is in possession of a letter that is supposed to lead him on the trail of printing plates for counterfeit money that were in the possession of his friend Schibulski, Tamara's brother. When Jimmy Bondi and Dudu come to the aid of their new acquaintances, the letter happens to be left inside the beetle. Jimmy Bondi refers Plato and Tamara to Lisbon , where he and his friends Magnolia and Cyrill run General Service , which accepts all kinds of jobs, while the Marchese has his people look for Dudu to get the letter.

Tamara finds out that Plato is not her brother's former boyfriend, but from the police, because the real Plato once broke his wrist and could not have used his fists so forcefully against the Marchese and his people.

In Lisbon, Plato and Tamara make the acquaintance of the company's boss Magnolia, who immediately asks about Jimmy's well-being with great joy. After Jimmy and Dudu arrive a short time later, they are harassed by two gangsters hired by de la Sotta, but are able to defend themselves against them. Plato and Tamara are also kidnapped by the Marchese on his property, but are able to flee.

In a final encounter on the beach, Plato is surrounded by the Marchese and his people; Jimmy and Dudu come to his aid once more. Since Plato's superior needs the printing plates as evidence, Plato follows the fleeing Marchese on his hovercraft. Plato cannot find any pressure plates at the Marchese, but lets it float in his hovercraft until the fuel runs out. Jimmy, who has swam after Dudu, and Plato want to set off straight away with Dudu, but are called back ashore by Magnolia, who had once promised Jimmy the marriage, using the remote control belt that Jimmy had forgotten in the hurry ashore.

background

This film developed the capabilities of the super beetle (shower, slamming door handles and hubcaps, remote control by radio and full swimming ability) and established the identity of the driver as Jimmy Bondi and the quasi-marriage with Kathrin Oginski . A lot of slapstick and remarkable because of the participation of Joachim Fuchsberger as an equal hero next to Zehetgruber.

criticism

"Simple and silly continuation of the Volkswagen series."
