With Honors ( With Honors ) is an American comedy film of Alek Keshishian from the year 1994 .
action
Montgomery Kessler is studying at Harvard University . He loses the only copy of his thesis that he has. The work is found by the homeless Simon Wilder, who lives in the basement of the Widener Library .
Wilder demands some favors from Kessler for returning the manuscript. Kessler and his roommates in the shared apartment are outraged at first, and later Kessler and Wilder become friends. Wilder gives the work back. Kessler takes him in as Wilder is seriously ill. A doctor says that Wilder has inhaled asbestos-contaminated air in the past , is terminally ill and only has a short time to live.
Wilder writes his own obituary, from which Kessler learns that Wilder left his wife and son in the past. When Wilder's illness becomes acute, he asks Kessler to drive him to his son. Kessler agrees, although he has to hand in the thesis late because of this, which is why he can no longer receive an award. You will be accompanied by the other students.
Wilder's son, now grown up, doesn't want to see his father at first. Kessler persuades him to do so with difficulty. When Wilder's granddaughter appears and asks about the strange man, her father says it is nobody .
Wilder dies in the presence of Kessler and his roommates. Only the students appear at the funeral while Kessler reads the obituary. In the obituary, Wilder named all four students and referred to them as his bereaved.
Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that while the film was "watchable", it was worse than it could be. His second half is much better than the first. Joe Pesci was wrongly cast in his role. Berardinelli praised the performances by Patrick Dempsey and Moira Kelly; he regretted that they were relatively little seen.
The lexicon of international films said: "Despite some lengths, the story is told in a compassionate and stylish way, with rich dialogues, convincing actors and selected beautiful pictures."
