The 50th all-around world championship for women was held on March 7th and 8th, 1992 in Thialf in Heerenveen , the Netherlands . Separately, the 86th Men's All- Around World Championship took place two weeks later, on March 21 and 22, 1992, on the Olympic Oval in Calgary , Canada . The two world championship titles went to the German Gunda Niemann and the Italian Roberto Sighel .

Participating Nations

Women

The field of participants in the women's all-around competition consisted of 32 athletes from 15 nations. The arrows indicate how the team size of a country has changed compared to the previous edition .

Athletes from Canada, North Korea and South Korea were no longer represented compared to the previous year. Overall, the field was one participant smaller than in 1991.

Men

34 athletes from 16 nations started in the men's all-around competition.

Compared to the previous year, athletes from France, Romania, South Korea, Hungary and the United Kingdom were no longer represented. Overall, the field was six participants smaller than in 1991.

Women

The German Gunda Niemann successfully defended her world championship title, first won in 1991, ahead of Emese Hunyady from Austria, who won her first World Championship medal. Seiko Hashimoto from Japan came in third .

Men

Roberto Sighel was the first Italian to become all- around world champion. Although he did not run the fastest time on any of the sections, he was classified among the top four and relegated the Dutchman Falko Zandstra and last year's winner Johann Olav Koss from Norway to second and third place.
