El Retén is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Magdalena in Colombia .

El Retén is in the north of Magdalena . Adjacent to the church in the north Pueblo Viejo , in the east Aracataca , in the south Fundación and Pivijay and in the West Remolino .
