Sitionuevo is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Magdalena in Colombia . Sitionuevo has a share in the natural parks Vía Parque Isla de Salamanca and Santuario de fauna y flora ciénaga grande de Santa Marta .

geography

Sitionuevo is located in the northeast of Magdalena on the Río Magdalena , 126 km from Santa Marta , at an altitude of 5 m above sea level. NN and has an average temperature of 30 ° C. In the north of the municipality, the Río Magdalena flows into the Caribbean Sea . In the territory of the municipality there are many wetlands such as the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta , Cuatro Bocas , Conchal , Las Piedras , Pajarral , El Torno and La Atascosa . The municipality borders the Caribbean to the north, Puebloviejo to the east, Remolino to the south and the Magdalena River to the west and the municipalities of Barranquilla , Soledad , Malambo , Sabanagrande , Santo Tomás and Palmar de Varela in the Atlántico Department .

history

Sitionuevo was founded in 1751 by Fernando Mier. Sitionuevo has had the status of a municipality since 1848.

The most important industry in Sitionuevo is animal husbandry . Agriculture and fishing also play an important role.

Infrastructure

There are boat connections to Barranquilla and other cities along the river via the Río Magdalena . Through the north of the municipality leading highway Troncal del Caribe , the Barranquilla to Santa Marta combines.
