Elsbeth Straub (born October 28, 1979 ) is a former Dutch biathlete and cross-country skier .

Elsbeth Straub was initially active as a cross-country skier. She took part in the Junior Nordic Ski World Championships in 1995 in Gällivare , 1996 in Asiago , 1997 in Canmore , 1998 in Pontresina and 1999 in Saalfelden . She achieved her best result in 1996 with a 45th place in the 5-kilometer classic. In addition, she competed in several cross-country skiing Continental Cup and FIS races without achieving any notable placements .

For the 1999/2000 season , Straub switched to biathlon and started her first race in the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof that season . She was 74 in a sprint. The highlight of her first biathlon season was participation in the 2000 Biathlon World Championships in Oslo . The Dutch woman finished 69th in the individual and did not finish in the sprint. The first highlight of the following season was the 2001 European Biathlon Championships in Haute-Maurienne . Straub was 44th in the individual and 38th in the sprint race. This was followed by the Biathlon World Championships in 2001 in Pokljuka , which placed 75 in the individual and 73 in the sprint. In the following season she achieved her best World Cup result in Oberhof as the 59th of a sprint. In the 2002 Olympic year , the European Championships in Kontiolahti Straub's only highlight of the season, as no Dutch woman could qualify for the Olympic Winter Games . In Finland she was 39th in the individual, 38th in the sprint and 40th in the pursuit. Also in 2003 the European Championships in Forni Avoltri were the first international championship of the season, in which Straub was 32nd of the individual, 39th of the sprint and 35th of the pursuit. The 2003 biathlon world championships in Khanty-Mansiysk marked the end of his career . In Siberia , the Dutch woman finished 60th in the individual and 69th in the sprint race. This made her the last Dutch woman to compete in the biathlon world championships for nine years . Only in 2012 did a Dutch woman take part in world championships again with Chardine Sloof . Alongside Gaby Willemsen, Straub was the best Dutch biathlete of her generation.

In the meantime (as of 2012) Straub works for the Greenland Association.
