history

The Elster School Center can be found in the center of the Elsterwerda-West district . The school was built in the course of the new housing construction from 1967 to 1968 as a type school building in panel construction. On September 1, 1968, in the presence of the then city mayor Felix Kocksch and the district school councilor Egon Langer, the inauguration of the new school building, which was equipped with 28 classrooms, a gym and a dining room. 34 teachers were initially employed at the polytechnic high school . Werner Neissner became the first director. In the school year 1968/69 607 pupils were taught in 20 classes. In the following year, on September 27, 1969, the school was given the name of Johannes Dieckmann (1893–1969). The former journalist and liberal-democratic politician had only died in February of the same year. From 1973 the Walter-Husemann-Schule in Schillerstraße acted as a branch of the school , which until then had been attended by the majority of the students in the district and now only led grades 1 to 4.

In 1975 and 1976, after work, a multi-purpose building was built at the school, which from then on served primarily for school meals and cultural events.

In 1991 the Elsterwerda comprehensive school emerged from the polytechnic high school . 585 students were taught in 29 classes in the school year 1990/91. On September 6, 1997 the inauguration of the new gym complex with two gyms and a new outdoor sports field took place; the complete renovation of the school building finally from 2001, its conversion into a primary and high school four years later. In the same year the construction of a new auditorium began on the school premises , which was completed in March of the following year. A year later the old multi-purpose building was demolished.

Since secondary schools have been established as school centers in the state of Brandenburg since the school year 2017/18, the school in Elsterwerda-West was also reorganized into a school center. By resolution of the district council in March 2018, the official name change to “Elsterschulzentrum - Primary Level & Secondary Level I” came into force at the beginning of the 2018/19 school year.

The sports ensemble, originally founded as a sports advertising group, was already known nationwide at that time, because a few years earlier, members of the sports advertising group had starred in the DEFA children's film “Destination Erfurt” in 1962 . The sports ensemble has been regularly represented at the International German Gymnastics Festival for decades and has been recognized by numerous television appearances, such as the entertainment program “ Ein Kessel Buntes ”, which is popular in the GDR , and the sports program “ Mach with, do it after, ” hosted by Gerhard Adolph ( Adi for short ) . make it better ”or the“ Jiří Korn Show ”in Prague and other events at home and abroad. Robbi Circus

Since 1993, the state of Brandenburg has also implemented the Circus Makes School project advertised by the state of Brandenburg . This makes the school one of the model schools selected by the Brandenburg Ministry of Education for this project. With the approval of the Ministry of Education , since the school year 1993/94 circus lessons have been offered as an elective subject from the 7th grade onwards. As part of this subject, the students learn, among other things, juggling with various devices (scarves, balls, rings and clubs), unicycling , balancing on the ball , playing with the diabolo and building human pyramids . In addition to the compulsory elective subject, circus is also offered as a study group.

In the course of the project, the “Robbi” school circus emerged, which has also had its own tent for many years. Like the sports ensemble, he has also been able to draw attention to himself throughout Germany through numerous contributions in the media and various television appearances. Among other things, there were appearances on outsider frontrunners and on SAT.1 breakfast television . The school circus is a multiple winner of the lottery sports festival of the state of Brandenburg. In addition, the school hosted the 3rd Brandenburg Circus Festival in September 1999 .
