Emil Schoch

Emil Schoch (born May 11, 1862 in Nuremberg , † April 20, 1916 in Munich ) was a Bavarian major general in the First World War .

Life

origin

His great-grandfather was the Swiss revolutionary Johann Felix Schoch (1768–1817), who was sentenced to death, and his grandfather was the manager of the Steingaden military foal farm, Johann Erhard Schoch (1788–1839). He was the son of Karl Wilhelm Schoch (1821–1868), Colonel in the Bavarian General Staff , and his wife Marie, née Heymann from Nuremberg . His brothers Gustav , Albert and Karl also became generals in the Bavarian Army.

Military career

Schoch, coming from the cadet corps , joined the 1st Infantry Regiment "König" of the Bavarian Army in 1881 as Portepeefähnrich . There he became second lieutenant on December 22, 1883 and worked as an adjutant at the Passau district command in 1886/89 . Schoch then returned to his regiment , became a battalion adjutant and promoted to prime lieutenant on June 13, 1892 . As such, he graduated from the War Academy from 1892 to 1895 , which pronounced him the qualification for the higher adjutantage. On November 7, 1896, when he was promoted to captain, he was appointed company commander . In this function Schoch commanded the 8th Company until 1903 and was then transferred to Würzburg as adjutant of the 4th Division . In the meantime promoted to major , he was reassigned to the 1st Infantry Regiment "König" in 1906 and commanded the III. Battalion. Subsequently transferred to the staff and promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 8, 1909 , Schoch was finally appointed regimental commander as a colonel in 1912. On December 18, 1913, he was appointed commander of the 3rd Infantry Brigade and on January 7, 1914, he was promoted to major general .

In conjunction with the 2nd Infantry Division , Schoch and his brigade took part in the fighting in Lorraine and France after the outbreak of World War I. Released from his post as commander on October 19, 1914, Schoch was assigned to the General Command of the 1st Army Corps . From January 27, 1915 until the dissolution of the large formation , he was commander of the 5th Reserve Infantry Brigade . Then Schoch had briefly commanded the in position battles in Flanders and Artois lying 14th Reserve Infantry Brigade , which he had, however, due to illness on March 26, 1915 post. Schoch was then the disposition made.

He died the following year in Munich.
