Empire State - The Streets of New York (Original Title: Empire State ) is an American heist movie that tells the true story of the biggest theft in US history to date. It stars Liam Hemsworth , Michael Angarano and Dwayne Johnson .

action

The action takes place in the 1980s. Chris and Eddie get by doing odd jobs. Eddie is a petty criminal, Chris wants to go to police school, but is not accepted because of a criminal record. Instead, he hires a money transport company whose clients do crooked business. The money store is only rudimentarily protected. At night, lying there until they are collected the next day an estimated 25 million US dollars ; but nobody knows exactly because the drivers also like to take something with them.

At first, Chris works there as an armed co-driver on a money transporter that is driven by his colleague Tony. When Tony is shot dead by gangsters in a robbery on the street, the employers blame Chris and demote him to the night watchman in the office. After Chris steals a single money bag from the warehouse and gives part of the booty to the family of the shot Tony, Eddie wants to rob the entire warehouse with him. Chris refuses, but since there is no security guard on duty except Chris on Thursday evening, Eddie breaks in. Chris lets himself be persuaded and opens the warehouse. Eddie knocks his friend out for alibi purposes and escapes with $ 11 million.

The police are trying to get to the bottom of it. Investigative cop Ransome has doubts about Chris' story and eyes him suspiciously. Since he later meets with Eddie, he comes up to this. He continues to do crooked business and is therefore a new target for the police. In the locker of a pub where Eddie works, Ransome discovers a plan of the warehouse that Chris drew up for Eddie to clarify. When Ransome hears Chris and his statement seems very unrealistic, he sees a connection to the robbery. Since Eddie has meanwhile been ripped off in a drug deal, he has no more money and threatens Chris with a gun because he doesn't want to give him any money. Chris' father Tommy joins this argument and shoots Eddie. Shortly afterwards, Ransome appears with police support and arrests the three.
