Nikki Reed
Nicole "Nikki" Houston Reed (born May 17, 1988 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American film actress , screenwriter and singer . She became known for the role of "Evie Zamora" in the film drama Thirteen , for whose script she co-wrote, and as " Rosalie Hale " in the film adaptations of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer .
Life
Youth and career start (until 2003)
Reed was born in West Los Angeles. She is the daughter of Cheryl Houston, a beautician , and Seth Reed, a set designer (for Fight Club and Minority Report, among others ). Her father is Jewish , her mother a Christian with Italian and Indian ( Cherokee ) roots. She has an older brother named Nathan. Reed herself grew up without a religious education, but describes herself as a Jew. Her parents divorced when she was two years old. She grew up with her mother in Culver City , California, her brother lived with her father. Reed described her youth as "complicated". She experimented with drugs, alcohol, and sex.
Reed's father had a relationship with Catherine Hardwicke for several years , who was also a set designer at the time. Hardwicke maintained contact even after the breakup. She suggested that Reed write down her teenage experiences. They wrote the script for the film Thirteen together within just six days during the winter holidays . Reed originally had no plans to become an actress, but the producers persuaded her to play a role in the film herself. So she was cast in one of the leading roles alongside Holly Hunter and Evan Rachel Wood . The film received critical acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Reed has received numerous awards and nominations for important film prizes for her achievements as an actress and writer. She has received the Independent Spirit Award and the Young Hollywood Award for best newcomer , among others . After finishing filming Thirteen , Reed initially returned to Hamilton High School in Los Angeles. She stayed there for less than a year, however, as angry mothers broke into the school and criticized and harassed her for her role in Thirteen . She eventually graduated from school with the help of home schooling . At the age of 14, she moved out of her mother's apartment.
Independent films and series (2004 to 2007)
After Reed left high school, she decided to pursue an acting career. In 2005 she starred again in the drama Dogtown Boys, directed by Catherine Hardwicke . The film tells the true story of the Z-Boys skateboard team , which had a significant impact on the skateboarding world in the late 1970s. In the same year, she starred alongside Forest Whitaker and Marcia Gay Harden in the episodic American Gun , which deals with the subject of firearms in the United States, and played a role in the independent film Man of God , in which she played a young prostitute , the one Rabbi seduces. She also starred in the music video for the single Just Feel Better by Santana featuring Steven Tyler .
In 2006, Reed starred as Johnny Harper's cousin Sadie Campbell in six episodes of the third season of the television series OC, California . Reed later stressed that she only accepted the role on the advice of her agents. She turned down the offer to return for the fourth season. She also had a guest role on the justice series Justice - Not Guilty in the episode Junkies . That same year she starred alongside Alec Baldwin and Carrie-Anne Moss in the Kevin Spacey- produced thriller My First Murder, a girl who seduces her stepfather and causes her mother to kill. She received the Solistice Film Festival Award for her performance . She also played the role of "seductress" in 2007 in the thriller Cherry Crush . In the same year she played the role of Andi in the series Reaper - A Devilish Job . After the pilot episode, however, she was replaced by Missy Peregrym , who subsequently occupied the role in the series. In 2007 she also appeared in the tragic comedy Familiar Strangers . The film was shown at several film festivals in 2008 and Reed and her colleagues won two awards for best acting ensemble.
Breakthrough with Twilight (since 2008)
Reed celebrated her final breakthrough in 2008 with the film Twilight - Until (s) dawn . In the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's bestseller, she can be seen as the vampire Rosalie Hale . Twilight is Reed's third film directed by Catherine Hardwicke. A year later she played this role again in the sequel New Moon - Till (s) noon hour .
In 2009 she stood at the side of DJ Qualls for the independent drama The Last Day of Summer in a leading role in front of the camera. For the first time she was involved as a producer on one of her films. The film premiered at the Hollywood Film Festival in October 2009 and was released in limited numbers in US cinemas less than a year later.
In 2010 she played Rosalie Hale for the third time in Eclipse - Bis (s) zum Abendrot . In Eclipse , the role was discussed for the first time, which is why Reed played a bigger part than in the two predecessors. She was also seen in the horror film Chain Letter . The film was shot in 2008 and still found its way to the cinema, mainly because of Reed's increased popularity. Chain Letter was received mostly negatively by critics and was not a success in the cinema either. In Germany, the film was therefore released directly on DVD. In addition, she stood in front of the camera for the drama Privileged , which remained unpublished. Reed directed the music video Edie Sedgwick for the band Sage . The video clip premiered in July 2010 at the Hotel Cafe Los Angeles.
In 2011, Reed and her Twilight colleague Peter Facinelli shot two video clips for the Internet in collaboration with the CollegeHumor.com website, in which the actors play the WonderTwins (wonder twins). She was also in the action film Catch .44 - The Big One , starring alongside Bruce Willis and Forest Whitaker . In Breaking Dawn - Until (s) to the end of the night - Part 1 (2011) and Breaking Dawn - Until (s) to the end of the night - Part 2 (2012) she played Rosalie again .
In 2012 Reed released the song "Now That I've Found You", which she recorded in a duet with her husband Paul McDonald. She also starred in and directed the accompanying music video. In October 2012, the couple released a joint album called "The Best Part". They were also featured with their song "All I've Ever Needed" on the soundtrack of the last Twilight film Breaking Dawn - Until the end of the night - Part 2 .
In 2013, Reed was in the action films Empire State - The Streets of New York and Pawn - Who Can You Trust? which were released directly on DVD in Germany.
The fantasy drama In Your Eyes , in which Reed has a supporting role, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2014 and subsequently released on the Internet. Reed also presented the sports comedy Intramural at the festival . From 2015 she played the role of Betsy Ross in the third season of the television series Sleepy Hollow . Reed played the lead role in the family film Sunday Horse - A Bond for Life (2016), which is based on the life of show jumper Debi Walden .
Personal
Reed lives alternately in New York City and Los Angeles. In 2010 she joined the organization “DoSomething” and raised funds to buy school supplies for pupils and students in need.
On October 16, 2011, Reed married rock musician Paul McDonald, four years her senior, whose name she adopted; however, she continues to use the stage name Reed . The celebration took place on a ranch in Malibu, California. Reed had met McDonald the previous March and got engaged to him in June. In March 2014, the couple announced their separation. In October 2014, actor Ian Somerhalder announced a relationship with Reed. In February 2015, the couple's engagement became known, and on April 26, 2015, the two married. Their daughter was born on July 25, 2017.
Reed is godmother to the son of her Twilight colleague Jackson Rathbone .
