The Entenbach , in sections also Sumbach , Sundbach and even Steinbach , is a 6.5 km long brook in the municipality of Satteldorf in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in north-eastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows from the right into the middle Jagst near the hamlet of Neidenfels .

Surname

In its lower valley from Sattelweiler the brook is also called Sumbach . On an older topographical map, the valley name Sundbachklinge can be found very close to the mouth ; Presumably the Sumbach was created from an original Sundbach through sound failure and regressive assimilating blurring . Hans Mattern, who grew up in nearby Crailsheim and is well versed in dialect, mentions in his book about the middle Jagst valley between Crailsheim and Dörzbach, in addition to the valley name Sumbachklinge (!), The names Sundbach and Steinbach for the lower reaches.

geography

course

The ducks Bach created on the wooded Fuchsberg , the northwestern slope of the Kappel forest . The longest upper course also has the highest source, which is about 500  m above sea level. NHN arises about 300 meters northeast of the water tower at the Kreßberg hamlet of Rudolfsberg and about 100 meters northwest of state road 1066 already on the Satteldorfer municipality marker. From there on the river initially flows northwestward in a forest blade down the slope and takes just before and then in small Wolfsee two forest streams blades of the left and then right. Half a kilometer further on, it feeds the almost hectare- sized Pechwiesenweiher , with which it also leaves the Fuchsberg forest and after a few meters to below 435  m above sea level. NHN passes under the dam of the Crailsheim – Nuremberg railway line .

After a quarter of its length it flows from now on steadily with small fluctuations in west to west-northwest direction. In only a slightly sloping plain, it now runs, often next to field paths, little deepened through a landscape dominated by meadows, in which formerly Reinbottenhausen was deserted . After another quarter of the run, on the right in front of the wooded Höcker Hornberg 465.6  m above sea level. NHN the Dottlesgraben is very shallow.

At the south-west foot of the Hornberg he passes an old pasture with trees on his right, after which he gradually sinks back into a hollow in the corridor from the Steinerne Bruck hill . From the opposite side, the rift system of the Rinnichgraben, which is linked to dirt roads, drains into the Entenbach; On older maps these watercourses still show irregular courses through the Gewann Büschwiesen , so they are apparently of natural origin. Then the Entenbach crosses the district road K 2504 from Satteldorf, which is already close in the west, to Ellrichshausen. After passing an Aussiedlerhof on the right over the Mulde, it flows under the road bridge of the K 2503 Satteldorf – Bronnholzhausen through the Tierbach , the longest tributary of 1.3 km from the northeast.

Partly only a good 100 meters from the outskirts of Satteldorf in the south, it flows past the village on the left and the Sattelhaus farm on the right, north of which the Satteldorf industrial area begins around the train station. In quick succession it crosses under the Crailsheim – Königshofen railway line and then the K 2659, which leads from Satteldorf past the industrial park to Gröningen , and traverses a little over 400  m above sea level. NHN the small town center of the Sattelweiler, which has now grown together with Satteldorf .

Past a quarry rubble dump, the Entenbach digs its way steeply into the shell limestone gorge of its lower reaches, where it is spanned high by the bridge of the federal highway 290 . Klingenwald grows on the steep slopes, the brook falls here over partly sintered limestone banks to the valley, while the L 1012 accompanies the brook over the concrete wall flanking the right run. Next to the street begins a row of houses from Neidenfels , of which newer districts are also on the right on the plateau; Opposite it is Burleswagen Castle, after the surrounding hamlet of the same name, on the far left spur of the valley. About a hundred meters above the Neidenfelser river weir, the Entenbach flows out at about 379  m above sea level. NHN at the foot of a small waterfall from the right into the middle Jagst .

The 6.5 km long duck brook flows about 121 meters below its origin, the very uneven slope of the bed is thus on average about 19 ‰.

Catchment area

The Entenbach drains an area of 10.5 km², which , in terms of natural space , lies with the smaller part in the east and south-east in the Crailsheimer Hardt sub-area of the Frankenhöhe , otherwise in the Gronach Bay sub-area of the Hohenloher and Haller levels .

Below the source area on the Fuchsberg , where the stream converges from small blades in the higher Mittelkeuper , it runs through a reed sandstone band ( Stuttgart formation ) that surrounds the Keuperberge on the flatter lower slope and then reaches the Gipskeuper ( grave field formation ) before the railway line Crailsheim-Königshofen , in which it now remains until about the Crailsheim – Königshofen railway line; in the middle of this section it runs through a large layer of Quaternary flood sediment . On the last-mentioned railway line, for example, it then crosses a suspected fault line with the Hochscholle on the west side, on which it flows through a steeply sloping short Kerbtal in the Upper Muschelkalk to the Jagst.

Competing brooks in the north and north-east are the somewhat more important Gronach with its tributaries, which also flows further down into the Jagst . In the east near the 435.2  m above sea level. NHN high Fuchsberg summit borders the catchment area on that of the Zwergwörnitz , which drains over the Wörnitz to the Danube . This short, most prominent section is therefore part of the European main watershed between the Atlantic on this side and the Black Sea on the other. Behind the southern border, the somewhat smaller Kreuzbach, called Kühnbach on the upper reaches in the mountainous region, runs roughly westwards and a little above now back to Jagst.

Around a quarter of the catchment area is forested, most of it in the southeast on the Fuchsberg and next to it almost only on the low summit of the Hornberg immediately in front of it. Around a sixth are residential and commercial areas in the west, mainly the village of Satteldorf, which has grown together with the hamlet of Sattelweiler, a bit away from and above the Jagsttal incision. The open land share is divided into fields and a little less meadows.

Almost the entire catchment area belongs to the municipality of Satteldorf . Only on the southern edge does the hamlet of Rudolfsberg in its small height clearing belong to the neighboring municipality of Kreßberg and then to the west a larger area north of Beuerlbach to the city of Crailsheim , both together make up about an eighth of the area. Immediately on the run there are only saddle hamlets in the beginning of the basin of the Muschelkalktal valley in the west as well as a line of settlements from Neidenstein , which, starting further down, runs to the right of the stream down to the mouth.
