Enwer Nasimovyč Ablajev ( Ukrainian Енвер Назімович Аблаєв , scientific transliteration Enver Nasimovyč Ablajev , Crimean Tatar Enver Nazim oğlu Ablayev , born June 5, 1979 in Chirchiq ) is a former Ukrainian freestyle skier and today's trainer. His specialty were the aerials . Ablaev is descended from the Crimean Tatars .

Career

Ablaev made his international debut as part of the European Cup in November 1995 in the Raubitschy winter sports complex in Minsk . In March 1996 he started at the Youth World Championships in Chatel, where he reached eighth place in the Aerials. A year later he started at the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 1997 in Iizuna kogen near Nagano . He landed in 23rd place in the aerials competition. In 1998 he was first Ukrainian champion and then accepted into the national team. On August 13, 2000, he made his debut in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup . He collected his first World Cup points as 20th. In January 2001 he took part in the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2001 in Whistler and was at the end 14th in the Aerials.

After Ablajew started once in the Nor-Am Cup in December 2001, he was part of the World Cup starting field from January 2002. In Whistler he finished eighth for the first time a top 10 placement. At the following Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002 , he was able to finish the competitions held in the Deer Valley as 22nd. The 2001/02 World Cup season he finished a little later as 32nd in the overall ranking and 20th in the Aerials ranking. On January 26, 2003, he just missed the podium in Fernie in fourth. He repeated this placement at the following Freestyle Skiing World Championships in 2003 in Deer Valley.

After two mixed years with only rare top 10 placements, Ablaev achieved the greatest success of his career with the victory at the World Cup in Madonna di Campiglio on March 11, 2005. A week later at the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2005 in Ruka he was seventh. After another mixed season with placements in midfield, he traveled to Turin in February 2006 for his second Winter Olympics . At the end of the competition he was able to achieve the best Olympic result of his active career with 12th place. At the end of the 2005/06 season , which he finished 63rd overall, Ablajew was able to finish sixth in the top ten in Davos . In the 2006/07 season there were again no top placements. Even at the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2007 in Madonna di Campiglio, he did not achieve the result of the previous world championships with rank 10.

After a weak start to the 2007/08 season , Ablaev started again in the Nor-Am Cup in January and only returned to the World Cup in Lake Placid , where he immediately landed in the top 10. Also in the 2008/09 season he managed to make it into the top ten in the Deer Valley and Moscow . With 20th place at the Freestyle Skiing World Championships in 2009 in Inawashiro , however, he suffered another setback. As a result, there were no top 10 results in the World Cup. At the age of 30, Ablaev started at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . As 22nd, he repeated his result from 2006. A week after the games, he started in the Bukovel winter sports area at the European Cup. After a win in the first race, Ablaev finished second in the second race.

After the 2010/11 season , in which he was 44th of the overall World Cup, he ended his active career. Before that, he was also able to achieve a European Cup podium in second place in Ruka in December and in Bukovel in March. He also achieved tenth place at the 2011 Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Deer Valley.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , Ablajew was the head coach of the Ukrainian freestylers at a major event for the first time and as this led his compatriot Oleksandr Abramenko to Olympic victory in the aerials. On February 26, 2018 he was awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit 3rd Class as a trainer for his success at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
