Erich Basarke
Erich Basarke (born November 15, 1878 in Graudenz , West Prussia , † April 23, 1941 in Chemnitz ) was an architect in Chemnitz.
Life
Erich Basarke was born in 1878 in Graudenz, West Prussia (today Grudziadz, Poland) as the son of a tailor. He studied architecture in Dresden from 1900 to 1903 , but left the academy without a degree. From 1904 he was an assistant architect in the building construction department in Chemnitz. In 1908 he founded the architectural office Zapp & Basarke together with Alfred Zapp . In the following period he developed into one of the most productive and versatile Saxon architects in the first third of the 20th century. Zapp left the office in 1919. Erich Basarke married the factory owner's daughter Susanne Reinecker in 1912, who died in 1930. The marriage had a daughter, Thea.
His grave is located in the Chemnitz municipal cemetery in the Reineckers' family grave.
In addition to high-rise buildings, Basarke designed interiors and grave monuments. A large number of his designs, mostly competition entries, could not be realized. Basarke began to build in the style of historicism and neoclassicism . In the 1920s he created some Art Deco designs and approached architectural modernism towards the end of the decade .
