history

The village was first mentioned as Ermeteus (Ermenteus) in 1344 in a document, as the closely related noble families dog and dog from Holzhausen previously each to them belonging village in exchange for half the deserted village Ludenbach (Lautenbach) to Landgrave Henry II. Of Hesse duties . In 1353 Heinrich II granted the place its own court; as a landgrave chamber village, fixed taxes were to be paid. Curd and Tile, the sons of Happel Blynar, sold their castle loan to Cord von Wichdorf in 1361 . Thomas von Gleichen explained in 1372 that Landgrave Heinrich could redeem the six Malter Korngülte from the tithe at Ermetheis for 60 pounds pfennigs. Heinrich II. And Hermann II. Von Hessen sold their village Ermetheis to Widerhold von Wichdorf in 1376. In 1378 they handed over the hereditary fourth part of the village to Herr Hund; this existed until 1497. Reinhard von Dalwigk and his nephew Friedrich IV. von Hertingshausen burned down the entire village including the church in 1443. From 1459 the place belonged to the office Gudensberg , which held the lower and embarrassing jurisdiction. Ekkebrecht von Grifte set an interest on Ermetheis for his wife in 1478 . The monastery Merxhausen received 1,535 1½ tons of herring, previously to the court of Landgrave of Kassel come had. In the interest register of the parish of Kirchberg in 1552 , Hermann Stauchen and Junghana Spernigk (also called Sinnigk) were listed as persons liable for fruit interest.

During the Thirty Years' War the Ermetheis were on the run at various times. The place was spared during the Seven Years' War .

From 1807, during the time of the kingdom of Westphalia , Ermetheis was the Peace Court Niedenstein and the Kassel district assigned.

In 1814 the place came to the Fritzlar district and again belonged to the Gudensberg office. After the Electorate of Hesse was divided into four provinces, Ermetheis then belonged to the office of Niedenstein.

On September 1, 1970, Ermetheis lost its independence in the course of the regional reform in Hesse , merged with the city of Niedenstein and became its district in the Fritzlar-Homberg district , which became part of the Schwalm-Eder district in 1974.

Evangelical village church

The barrel-vaulted basement of the west tower is Romanesque . It opens towards the ship in a round arch . Above is a stone storey with small slit windows and above it a slate wooden structure from 1667 with an eight-sided pointed helmet tent roof and four corner turrets from the 17th century. The weather vane shows the year 1754. The now dilapidated ship was replaced in 1775 by a new half-timbered building with sandstone walling and in 1830 it was extended to the east. In the mid-1970s, the ship, which has now threatened to lean to one side, was stabilized by pulling in a steel structure. At the same time, the interior was redesigned and the framework was exposed again on the outside.
