Ernst August Pech (born August 18, 1788 , other year 1784 in Hochkirch / Oberlausitz , † January 1, 1863 in Dresden ) was a German doctor and university professor .

Life

Ernst August Pech attended the high school in Budissin (today: Philipp-Melanchthon-Gymnasium Bautzen ) and gave a Latin lecture there as a pupil in 1805, in which he tried to show that of the inventions of the previous century, the vaccination of cowpox was indisputably the most beneficial .

After finishing high school, he studied at the Collegium medico-chirurgicum in Dresden.

After his studies he became the first field surgeon on September 25, 1806, until then the name Feldscher was common in the Saxon army and took part in the battle of Wagram in the "Niesemeuschel" infantry regiment . He then stayed in Pressburg for four months and, acting on behalf of the sick regimental doctor, led his regiment's hospital back to Torgau . Soon after his return in 1811 he became a pensioner surgeon.

In 1812 he was employed as a prosector at the Collegium medico-chirurgicum and in 1813, during the Battle of Dresden , saved the precious anatomical collection that he brought to the new building at the Zeughof.

In 1815 he got an additional job in the Surgical Medical Academy , when it was founded, and gave theoretical and practical anatomy lessons there .

In 1817 he went on a scientific journey through Germany, England and France, which gave him the opportunity to study veterinary medicine .

He received his doctorate in 1819 in Würzburg with a thesis entitled Osteosarcoma ejusque speciei insignis desciptio; adjuncta est de cura hernniarium per ligaturam radicali tractatiunoula .

In the following year he was appointed professor of veterinary medicine at the veterinary school , which was affiliated with the Surgical Medical Academy, and in 1826 he switched to the professorship for surgery and ophthalmology in the surgical clinic at the academy itself; later he became director of the surgical clinic.

With the beginning of the 1830s he gave classes on eye diseases, which became a regular part of the lectures in special surgery at the academy.

For the first time in 1830, and since 1841 regularly, Pech held public colleges on hearing diseases, which meant that otology was beginning to become independent .

He was a member of the Medical Examination and Advisory Board.

He was one of those professors at the Surgical Medical Academy who were also in the service of the Saxon military, and was senior physician at the royal military educational institution .

When he died, General Staff Doctor August Friedrich Günther continued to run the clinic, who had already taken over from Ernst August Pech while he was ill.
