Ernst Cölestin Koehlau

Ernst Cölestin Koehlau (born June 11, 1805 in Wiehe ; † April 14, 1873 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian major general and department head for the disabled in the War Ministry .

Life

Ernst was a son of the lawyer and judicial councilor Karl Cölestin Koehlau (1769–1848) and his wife Wilhelmine Ludowike, née Schardt.

Military career

Koehlau attended the high school in Schulpforta and studied at the University of Leipzig after graduating . On August 1, 1824, he joined the 3rd Pioneer Department of the Prussian Army as a pioneer . In mid-December 1825, he was promoted to secondary lieutenant in the 26th Infantry Regiment and completed the General War School for further training from 1829 to 1833 . In 1834 he was assigned as a teacher at the division school of the 7th Division and in mid-June 1835 at the Berlin Cadet House . With the promotion to prime lieutenant Koehlau was transferred to cadet corps on August 6, 1837 and he rose to captain and company commander by the end of November 1841 . In this capacity he was transferred to the 36th Infantry Regiment in Saarlouis on August 24, 1848 . On August 14, 1849, he joined the 29th Infantry Regiment as a major and commander of the 1st Battalion and in mid-July 1855 was promoted to lieutenant colonel . From August 25, 1856, he was employed as director of the cadet house in Kulm . On November 22, 1858 he was given the character of a colonel .

Subsequently, on March 8, 1860, Koehlau was assigned to the War Ministry for three months and was appointed head of the Central Department in the War Ministry on May 3, 1860, with the award of the patent for his rank. On June 6, 1861 he was appointed head of the department for the disabled and on June 25, 1864 he was promoted to major general. At the same time, Koehlau was also active as a member of the study commission of the War Academy from November 29, 1864, before he was put up for disposition on June 5, 1866 with the award of the Crown Order, 2nd class with pension . He died in Wiesbaden on April 14, 1873.

Koehlau married Charlotte Anna Cooch on April 29, 1854 in Trier . The couple had a son (* 1856).
