Ernst Philipp von Grothaus

Baron Ernst Philipp Ferdinand von Grothaus zu Ledenburg (born December 9, 1703 ; † November 24, 1776 ) was a Brunswick cavalry general and a royal British lieutenant general . Last agnatic cave house at Ledenburg Castle and last offspring of the Westphalian tribe of his family.

Life

origin

Grothaus was the 5th of ten children of Johann Jobst Heinrich von Grothaus zu Ledenburg (* August 13, 1658 - June 1, 1728) and Eleonore Sophie, born von Redern zu Hastenbeck (* March 10, 1673 - March 11 1724).

Career

Grothaus was initially chosen by Osnabrück prince-bishop Ernst August to be the court page, but in 1721 he joined the prince-bishop's infantry regiment under Colonel von Langen as an ensign . As early as 1723 he said goodbye and was accepted as a cornet in the electoral Hanoverian cavalry regiment "de St. Laurent" . By 1740 he was promoted to lieutenant captain and then to captain . From 1757 to 1761 Grothaus was the owner of the Kur-Braunschweig-Lüneburg Reuter Regiment R 3-A , and eventually rose to the rank of general by the end of his career.

Grothaus had the hall church built in Holte in 1770 , to which his family held the patronage . He was a friend of Justus Möser .

family

On April 9, 1733, he married Anna Friederike von Oldershausen , daughter of Jobst Adam von Oldershausen and Sybille Lucretia von Wurmb . The marriage produced five daughters:

  1. Eleonore Elisabeth Helene Sophie (1734–1794) ∞ Georg Hermann Heinrich von Münster zu Surenburg , Prince-Bishop 's Court Marshal . The son of the two Count Ernst Friedrich Herbert zu Münster -Ledenburg later also carried the title of Baron von Grothaus.
  2. Wilhelmine Marie Ernestine (* June 1, 1736; † 21 January 1793), Stiftsdame in Wunstorf , Vice - abbess in Leden
  3. Luise Caroline Johanna Friederike (born November 17, 1739; † young)
