Life

origin

He came from the noble family Linsingen and was the son of the Hanoverian lieutenant general Georg Karl Friedrich von Linsingen (1792-1870) and his wife Sophie, née Vogler (1799-1848). The later Prussian major general Heimart von Linsingen (1818-1894) was his older brother.

Military career

Linsingen attended grammar school in Lüneburg and then joined the 1st light battalion of the Hanover Army on May 22, 1839 as a cadet . On February 6, 1840, he joined the 5th Infantry Regiment as a Second Lieutenant and graduated from the Hanover Military Academy in 1843/44 . After Linsingen had become Premier Lieutenant in June 1850 , he was promoted to adjutant regiment a year later . As a captain , he took over a company in the Guard Jäger Battalion on May 27, 1858 . Linsingen had the same position from January 1, 1863 when he was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Regiment . During the 1866 campaign against Prussia, Linsingen fought with his regiment in the battle of Langensalza , where he was wounded by a shot in the left thigh.

After his recovery, Linsingen was taken on March 9, 1867 as a captain and company commander in the Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 2 of the Prussian Army . There he was promoted to major on June 22, 1867, and as such, Linsingen was appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion on September 20, 1869. In the war against France , Linsingen was wounded by a shot in the left side and through the left ankle joint during the Battle of Gravelotte on August 18, 1870. Due to the severity of the injuries, he could no longer be used in the field and could only move with the help of a stick for the rest of his life. However, he remained in service, was promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 18, 1872 , and on April 13, 1872, under position à la suite of the regiment, was appointed 2nd commandant of Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein . He was relieved of this task on August 10, 1874 and then appointed commandant of Glatz . Shortly thereafter, on September 19, 1874, he was promoted to colonel and on August 10, 1876, he was awarded the Order of St. John . At the end of March 1881, Linsingen was still major general, received the Order of the Crown, 2nd class in September 1882, and was finally put up for disposal on April 1, 1884 with the award of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, with a pension .
