Hans Heimart Ferdinand von Linsingen (born March 12, 1818 in Lüneburg , † July 19, 1894 in Dessau ) was a Prussian major general .

Heimart was the son of the Hanoverian Lieutenant General Georg Karl Friedrich von Linsingen (1792-1870) and his wife Sophie, née Vogler (1799-1848). The later Prussian major general Ernst Wilhelm von Linsingen (1821–1895) was his younger brother.

Military career

Linsingen attended high schools in Minden and Hildesheim . He then joined the 3rd Infantry Regiment of the Hanoverian Army as a cadet on December 1, 1833 . After a short period of service, he joined the Prussian Army on May 17, 1834 and was employed as a musketeer in the 20th Infantry Regiment . By February 1837 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and took part in the battle near Schleswig and Düppel in 1848 during the war against Denmark . In March 1849 Linsingen joined the 1st Battalion of the 20th Landwehr Regiment as an adjutant and in June 1850 was promoted to company commander in the III. Battalion. Here he was promoted to prime lieutenant on June 19, 1851 and three years later to captain . Linsingen was company commander in the 29th Infantry Regiment from mid-November 1857 before he was transferred to Infantry Regiment No. 69 on July 1, 1860 and promoted to Major on November 13, 1860 . As such, Linsingen was commander of the 1st battalion from June 9, 1863, and on June 8, 1866, he became a lieutenant colonel . Under his leadership, the battalion fought in the campaign against Austria in 1866 near Münchengrätz and Königgrätz .

On February 8, 1868, Linsingen was commissioned with the command of Infantry Regiment No. 67 under position à la suite . With the promotion to colonel on March 22, 1868, he was commander of this regiment. On June 17, 1869, he was released from this command and appointed commander of the 3rd Guards Regiment on Foot . In the Franco-Prussian War , Linsingen was deployed with the regiment at Gravelotte , where he was wounded and awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. As the war continued, Linsingen was briefly leader of the 3rd Guard Infantry Brigade from August 23 to October 19, 1870. He fought at Beaumont , Sedan , Le Bourget , Dagny and Pont-Iblon and took part in the siege of Paris . After the war he received the Iron Cross 1st Class for his achievements, was placed à la suite of his regiment on July 4, 1872 and appointed commander of the 12th Infantry Brigade. In this position he was promoted to major general on March 22, 1873. On October 15, 1874 Linsingen was awarded the Red Eagle II. Class with oak leaves with board for disposition made.

Linsingen was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .

Linsingen married Marie Luise Therese Maurer (1824–1868) on January 27, 1848 in Brandenburg an der Havel . The couple had at least one daughter:
