Erwin Josef Rüddel (born December 21, 1955 in Bonn ) is a German graduate in business administration . He has experience in publishing from 1985 to 1992 and from 1993 to 2009 was the manager of a senior citizens' facility. He has been a politician ( CDU ) since 1980 and a member of the German Bundestag since 2009 , a member of the Committee on Health and a deputy member of the Committee on Family, Seniors, Women and Youth . He has been Chairman of the Health Committee since 2018.

Life

Erwin Rüddel is the son of Josef Rüddel and grew up with two younger brothers on his parents' farm in the Windhagen district of Hüngsberg in the Westerwald . After graduating from high school and studying economics , which he completed with a degree in business administration, he gained his first professional experience as a commercial clerk in the publishing industry. From 1993 to 2009 he worked as managing director of a senior citizens facility in Bad Arolsen .

He has been married since 1980, has two children and lives in Windhagen.

Political career

Rüddel began his political work in 1972 when he joined the CDU and the Junge Union . From 1972 to 1988 he was a member of the board of directors of the Asbach JU community association , including chairman for a few years. He was also active from 1975 to 1981 as chairman of the JU Windhagen.

From 1980 to 1988 he was district chairman of the Junge Union Neuwied and from 1982 to 1992 deputy CDU district chairman. From 1984 to 1994 and since 1999 he has been a member of the Neuwied district council . Here he has been deputy group chairman since 2005 .

From 1984 to 2018 Erwin Rüddel was a member of the Windhagen local council . He began his political work at the state level as a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from January to May 1987.

From 1987 to 1994 he was environmental policy spokesman for the CDU district parliamentary group and a member of the supervisory board of the waste recycling company for the greater Koblenz area.

Erwin Rüddel was chairman of the CDU local branch in Windhagen from 1988 to 2010. From 1991 to 1997 he was a member of the CDU district board of Koblenz-Montabaur. From 2007 to 2017 he was treasurer of the CDU district association Koblenz-Montabaur.

From 1997 to 2001 and then again from 2003 to 2008 he was a member of the state board of his party in Rhineland-Palatinate. Erwin Rüddel has been the CDU Rhineland-Palatinate representative for sports issues since March 2012. Since 2008 he has been chairman of the CDU district association in Neuwied.

From 1994 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2009 he acted as 1st alderman of the local community of Windhagen. From 1994 to 1999 he was also a member of the municipal council.

From November 9th, 1998 to November 2009, he was again a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament and thus continues the work he started in 1987 in terms of state politics.

From 1999 to 2004 he acted as parliamentary group chairman in the Windhagen local council.

From 2014 to 2018 he was a member of the Federal Expert Committee “Health and Care” of the CDU in Germany.

Member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament

From January to May 1987 and from November 1998 to November 2009 Erwin Rüddel was a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate . On January 15, 1987, he replaced Theo Zwanziger on the state list in the state parliament for the 10th electoral period . On November 9, 1998, he replaced Werner Wittlich as a personal representative in the state parliament for the 13th electoral term . In the 2001 state elections and the 2006 state elections , he won the direct mandate for the Linz am Rhein / Rengsdorf constituency .

Rüddel worked primarily on social and media policy issues and was a full member of the Social Policy Committee and the Committee for Media and Multimedia. In the socio-political area, he was the CDU spokesman for all topics relating to care and senior citizens. In the committee for media and multimedia he was the spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group and at the same time the chairman of the relevant working group of the CDU parliamentary group. He was also a deputy member of the Committee on Economics and Transport and the Committee on Equality and the Advancement of Women.

Member of the Bundestag

In the 2009 Bundestag elections , Erwin Rüddel won the Bundestag constituency of Neuwied as a direct candidate with 39.2% of the first votes cast (66,214). In the 2013 federal election he was able to defend his direct mandate in the Neuwied constituency with 46.9% of the first votes cast (79,782). In 2017 he was able to win his direct mandate again with 43.2% of the first votes cast (76,951).

He is a full member of the Committee on Health and an alternate member of the Committee on Family, Seniors, Women and Youth . From 2013 to 2018 he was rapporteur for care policy for his group. He has been rapporteur on patient rights since 2018.

He is a member of the European Union parliamentary group of the German Bundestag , the parliamentary group on rail transport , the parliamentary group "Rail Noise", the parliamentary group for medium-sized enterprises of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, the parliamentary group Union60 + of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and the cardinal Höffner group in the German Bundestag .

Controversy

In February 2018, Erwin Rüddel caused outrage among nurses with a message on a microblogging service . He had suggested that carers start talking well about caring. The nurses mostly responded with shocking anecdotes from professional life and showed how hard they almost always work at the limit.

Club activities

From 1975 to 1978 Erwin Rüddel was chairman of the Windhagen youth club, from which the KJG Windhagen emerged, and from 1974 to 1980 he was chairman of the Windhagen maic club. From 1988 to 2002 he took over the chairmanship of the KG “Wenter Klaavbröder e. V. “, the carnival club of his home parish. Since 1986 he has been a board member of the “Kirchwies e. V. “aktiv, which operates a youth campground. There he is the financial administrator (as of June 2012) . Furthermore, since 1998 he has been the district chairman of the RKK (Rheinische Karnevals-Korporationen e.V.) for the Neuwied-Land district and as a member of the RKK's presidium.
