Erymanthos ( pronunciation : [ ɛˈrimanθɔs ], Greek Ερύμανθος ( m. Sg. )) Is a municipality with 8877 inhabitants in the interior of the Greek peninsula Peloponnese . It was newly formed on January 1, 2011 from the municipalities of Fares, Kalentzi , Leondio and Tritea and has its seat in Chalandritsa , which with 913 inhabitants is the largest of the official 88 settlements in the municipality. Erymanthos was named after the mountain massif of the same name , on the western flank of which the municipality extends.

City parishes (Ez. Gr. Dimos ) called Fares and Tritea first existed from 1833 to 1912; the names were borrowed from the ancient Achaean cities of Tritaia and Pharai . From the division of the former, the rural community (kinotita) Kalentzi emerged in 1912 , from the latter the rural community Gourzoumisa (Γουρζούμισα), which was given the name Leondio in 1923, was split off. In 1997, through the amalgamation of many no municipalities, two new municipalities were created, which were again given the names Tritea and Farres, Kalentzi and Leondio remained independent. With the administrative reform of 2010 , the now four municipalities merged into the larger municipality of Erymanthos.

Although the Erymanthos with its 2224 meters determines the landscape of the municipality and the mountain range it dominates (north of the main peak Barba , south Neropouli and Skiadovouni ) delimits the municipality to the east, the municipality is geographically clearly structured. In Fares, the river Piros, which has its source on the Erymanthos, flows through agriculturally usable alluvial land between 100 and 250 meters above sea level, which slopes further towards the sea towards the western Achaiian plain. Tritea and the Kalentzis area it surrounds lie in the Voundouchla plateau, which is shielded to the west by the Kombovouni ( 760 m ) and further south by the ridge of the Voundouchla. The stream flowing through it, which is also called Voundouchla, flows south to the Pinios . The southwest of Tritea is hilly, but shielded to the west by the rock ridge of the Skollis ( 965 m ). The area of Leondi extends north of the Erymanthos deep into the mountains and reaches the mountain massifs of Panachaiko and Klokos.

Community structure

The 34 municipalities that existed until 1997 have had the status of local communities since 2011 (Ez. Gr. Topiki kinotita τοπική κοινότητα) and elect a three-person council or a single representative as local representation, depending on the number of inhabitants. The population figures come from the results of the 2011 census.
