Quote

From a speech by Müller on January 17, 1913:

I myself am a born French and have never been ashamed of it, yes, I am proud of it and am happy about it… I admire all the wealth, all the glory, all the wonderful that French culture has to offer. I am also happy to be a child of this culture and I would regret it if it had not been given to me, at least to a modest extent, to enrich my own mind with the treasures of the French spirit. May I not say that about our country in a higher sense? This culture has certainly not only touched our people on the outside, no, it has left deep traces in the soul of our people. We want these traces to be preserved. We want to help ensure that they are not lost. "
